Undergraduate Industry Based Learning Program 2025– Acciona

Are you looking to start your career wanting to make a difference, promote sustainable development, and find solutions to the biggest global challenges including climate change, overpopulation, and water scarcity?

We are offering Undergraduates the opportunity to apply for our full-time Undergraduate Industry Based Learning Program, commencing in January 2025.  This opportunity allows you to gain industry experience while completing your degree.

About the company

We are proud of our Undergraduate Industry Based Learning (IBL) Program which we have been successfully running for almost a decade. Our program consists of a structured learning and development series and on-the-job training, enabling students to gain necessary hands-on experience. With an excellent retention rate, our program also gives students the opportunity to develop and grow their careers with the company in a supported environment.

To be considered for ACCIONA IBL Undergraduate Program, you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen / Permanent Resident or have other eligible working rights.     
  • Be currently undertaking an Undergraduate degree relevant to the discipline you are applying for and have completed at least 50% of your degree.   
  • Be eligible to complete a professional placement as part of your Undergraduate degree, with the ability to obtain credit for/acknowledgment of the placement from your university or willing to take a leave of absence. 
  • Be able to work full-time for the duration of the placement (6 or 12 months).   
  • Hold a current Driver License and have your own reliable vehicle.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • The ability to follow through on delegated instructions and tasks.   
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.  
  • Fluent in the Microsoft Office suite of desktop applications and related software packages.  
  • Highly organised with exceptional time management and planning abilities, setting own priorities within time constraints, and managing conflicting demands.   
  • Meticulous in your attention to detail and the accuracy of your documentation and system entries.   
  • A responsible and professional outlook.

Responsible for earthworks and drainage quality works and to make sure correct laboratory tests are conducted onsite according to MRWA specifications; raising and closing quality lots by meeting requirements; tracking of cost to meet required budget and to ensure appropriate permits and approvals are in place to facilitate daily works on site. Manage and ensure daily work activities are undertaken in accordance with permits, approvals, design drawings, specifications, work management plans and communicating with other teams on the project. Daily, weekly, and monthly cost report to Project Engineer and Section Manager. Assist in procuring and arranging material on site ahead of the works to avoid delays. Plan 3-week lookahead for the works to undergo on site and communicate with supervisors and ensure works are completed on time. Request setout files for the areas and do the pit build ups according to schedule for the crew to install drainage lines. Communicate with numerous different section engineers to ensure works can be programmed or organize to happen according to schedule, accommodating any critical action path.

Pros

  • Lots of learning and professional development opportunities.

  • The managers are really helpful with anything and everything... I’ve always felt that they look out for you as you’re a grad.

  • I love that Acciona genuinely holds sustainability so close to its core.

  • There is work flexibility and a friendly and positive work culture.

  • Supportive team, the company cares about the growth and learning of graduates.

Cons

    • The nature of the construction industry means that it is hard to achieve a work/life balance.

    • Work Loads. Long work Hours.

    • It's not the most social office environment.

    • The commute, inability to WFH more and my inability to get out to projects.

    • The graduate program feels like a complete waste of time and only takes away from me being able to complete my actual work.
