With such a large organisation, there are always opportunities around, whether it is a step up or a step sideways into something new. Sometimes you can get stuck with a job title that doesn't match the work you are doing and the respect people regard you with. Although, with constant restructures, there can be opportunity to request a new role be created.

Sounds like I can have a permanent job after the graduate role is completed. They are giving me exposure in other jobs that are more field-based as well (which is the role I could see myself doing more at this point).

It is a large organisation and with varying disciplines easy if looking for a career change. More desirable roles are harder to come by

Not sure the future position after graduate programme, even it is a permanent role, but the future position based on the vacancy in the organisation.

Excellent place to move up the hierarchy and have changed jobs 4 times whilst here to more challenging roles.

The career paths are very transparent. It has been made clear that if you wish to stay at the council after the grad programme there is likely going to be a role for you, which is good.

There is always an annual look at pay and promotions every 6 months, this is where your pay could be increased. There is a lot of career progression at this job with people moving around different teams and departments over the years they work here which is great.

Through the induction process as Graduates, we have been taught about remuneration, payroll and staff benefits, and also heard from older Graduates about their paths and permanent roles at Council. The opportunity to progress is very apparent! This is especially clear when hearing from staff who have been here several decades!

Not 100% sure on what's available, but I feel confident that the graduate position is an incredibly important stepping stone in my progression of promotion and career growth. I'm not too knowledgeable on ranking up at Auckland Council, though it seems as though there are a number of opportunities that will be catered towards graduate positioned peers.

Managers are supportive in the 1v1 catch-ups for my career development. You will need to build up your experience, show interest and work hard.

Auckland Council constantly has emails circulating around which promotes career opportunities throughout the organisation. It takes work and dedication to move up in the ranks at Auckland Council, each piece of work complete does not go unnoticed and it is essential to always put 100% into every task.

It definitely feels like the easiest/fastest way move up the ladder is to leave for a different organisation. Council is a little old-school in wanting a certain number of years experience, rather than taking it case-by-case for each person.

I am offered a guaranteed position at the end of my program; however, I am unsure of where this position will be. I feel I could viably get a permanent position at the end of my program if there is availability. Many of the policy teams tend to have long standing members and low turnover rates.
