What is Building Services at Aurecon?

At Aurecon we bring a design led thinking approach to consider how people will live, work, and use the buildings we design. We focus on forming lasting relationships with clients who develop and maintain sustainable, complex buildings

We provide multi-disciplinary specialisations in the buildings team encompassing an array of Engineers including Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Hydraulic, Sustainability, Facades and Fire Protection Engineers.

Hydraulics Engineers work closely with clients and design teams to create robust and fit for purpose building solutions. As hydraulics engineers we are responsible for delivering sewer, stormwater, water supply and hot water services designs complying with the New Zealand building code and industry best practice. Through our design we are one of the main contributors to building sustainable buildings. Rainwater harvesting, greywater harvesting, and innovative water heating solutions are only two examples of how we increase a building’s performance.

We are proud that our mahi directly contributes to Aotearoa’s Built Environment.

What are we looking for from you?

Steps to success below!

You'll be ready to make an impact. You will be studying towards a formal qualification and be in either your 2nd or 3rd year of study. You will need to have the ability to work on a full-time basis from November 2023 until February 2024.

We'll need you to be studying towards any of these degrees: Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Hydraulic Engineering OR Bachelor of Engineering Technology

You would have studied or are studying following subjects or areas of interest:

  • Fluid dynamics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Building services

And you will bring:

  • Passion for changing the way we deliver carbon neutrality and sustainability in everything we do.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with both your peers and clients to push forward the boundaries of what is possible.
  • Enthusiasm for re-imagining engineering and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future.
  • Excitement about your journey with Aurecon.

How will your future be shaped by us?

We've been recognised for our innovation culture, gender equality and our LGBTI+ inclusion, including being the first engineering company in Aotearoa New Zealand to receive the Rainbow Tick. Our Māori Strategy - He Rautaki Māori, won two Good Design Awards in 2022 for its outstanding contributions in bringing He Rautaki Māori and digital innovation into operations and decision-making processes. Bring your whole self to work!

Joining us as an intern gives you a snapshot of what we are about and opens up opportunities to come back as a graduate with us, meaning you’d have the opportunity to be part of an award-winning graduate programme. We made LinkedIn's 25 best workplaces to grow your career in New Zealand list, and GradNewZealand ranked us top 2 in Engineering Consulting list and top 5 in the overall New Zealand Top 100 Graduate Employers list.

Aurecon’s strength has always been our people. It’s our people who build our shared purpose and bring ideas to life. It’s our people who imagine and co-create with our clients a better future for people and the planet. Of course, you’ll probably know lots of our award-winning projects.  The new Auckland Light Rail Project? That is us.  Supporting Fonterra transition to a resilient, low-emissions economy with their new biomass boiler at their Waitoa Factory, that is us too. And partnering with Watercare to transform the delivery of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s water services? You guessed it, us. So, when you join us, you’ll be joining a community working together to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges.
