I am currently shadowing the assistant project manager and project manager on the HMAS TOOWOOMBA SRA13 project. I have been assigned with filling out admin cancellation requests and task deferral requests, submitting the documents onto WAMA SharePoint and tracking the progress on SharePoint. Communication with WAMA SPO is required when clarification is needed on the admin cancellations and task deferral requests. The assistant PM and I have a separate Task tracker spreadsheet, in which we update and document the TPCC's, ACR's, TDR's and Contingency record. I am tracking and updating the document daily. I have also been assigned with taking down meeting minutes at our weekly IPT meetings. Alongside working on the TOOW project, I am also still currently facilitating the ship staff Babcock inductions for HMAS Stuart IMAV11 and assisting the Project administration when help is needed.

Effectively nothing. Optimistically, I might say "at the moment," but I have no experience to tell me I will have actual responsibilities any time soon.

Pros and cons of working at Babcock Australasia

Pros

  • Work-life balance and flexibility.

  • Babcock is a company that truly cares for their employees, and as a graduate, they are aiming to develop our capability and support us to do so through various means of learning modules, reviews and networking opportunities.

  • The culture is great and everyone is very supportive and friendly.

  • Exposure to many areas of the defence industry.

  • Our facilities are also very good; I cycle into work, and we have fantastic lock-up and shower facilities.

Cons

    • Being a large organisation it is sometimes hard to see how your work is having an impact.

    • Work can be slow or dull at times.

    • I don't like that they have multiple o๏ฌƒces as some sites are harder to visit.

    • The worst aspect of my job would be limited leisure time on workdays with working on site.

    • The lack of engineering work. I've been put in functional teams and have not yet done any technical engineering.
