As a Beca graduate, you will join our Graduate Development Programme, a two-year journey designed to set you up for a successful and fulfilling career with us. My role is typically to run the numbers for different structural engineering projects. Industry is going a bit slow at the moment so work has been drying up generally but the work I am currently doing is exciting.

Pros and cons of working at Beca New Zealand

Pros

  • The level of the work is great, I'm given the opportunity to work on really interesting projects that challenge me.

  • Team is always keen to help out... everyone is pretty chill.

  • Flexibility in working locations and hours is a plus. Wellbeing and volunteer leave is also pretty good.

  • I feel as though promotions are an accurate reflection of the level of work.

  • On a rare occasion I work slightly more... it’s expected I reduce my hours the following week.

Cons

    • My remuneration feels low, however my understanding is that it is in line with other companies for the level of experience I have.

    • Senior staff do not communicate with junior employees, creating a highly hierarchical structure that limits collaboration.

    • Limited training opportunities that are actually valuable. Company prioritises chargeable time.

    • Office is starting to feel a little bit tired especially when compared to some of the new buildings coming up in the city.

    • There are unspoken expectations to work longer hours to be seen as a high achiever.
