There is a large focus on diversity which can be seen in business initiatives, updates from executive leadership and information in our annual report on the company's diversity statistics. i am not aware of information regarding retention, childcare or maternity leave but the company is committed to being a leader in diversity recruitment (which they are) and always looks to promote/recruit from within before outside hiring.

It is diverse enough for what the existing demographic is

I think they're trying to hire more diverse teams, but the liquor space still feels very much dominated by white people. and it was a bit of a joke when coles had an international womens day panel with a token man on the panel and the male liquor ceo as the mc. at an event highlighting women, it was not needed. at a separate women in liquor panel it was all women in high leadership positions, i think they need more representation of women in different stages of their careers, of women of colour.

Support diversity

I think the company likes to make lots of commitments to diversity but i believe a lot is for show. a fellow grad who was from a minority group did not receive culturally competent support and ended up leaving the company.

Prominent policy on inclusion

Lots of events e.g. women in tech, supporting mental health, naidoc week, pride events etc. for retention, it may just be timing, but have heard of unexpected redundancies and people leaving due to delays in project funding/cutting contractors.

I can see coles pushing to make the workplace gender equality better. there are a lot of women in leadership roles and managerial positions. they are also extremely supportive of the lgbtiqa+ communities and those who are less abled. however, even though i see a lot of ethnic minorities in the workplace, i do not see a lot of people in colour in leadership roles. however, i am not sure if this is because they aren't applying.

Culture at coles is extremely diverse, all the way from the bottom to the top of the chain. many of the slts are from different backgrounds and genders.
Graduate, Sydney - 29 Aug 2024
This is difficult to comment on as i am a white male. but i have seen efforts by the employer to try and level out gender wage gaps, to ensure we are putting a focus on inappropriate work place comments etc.

In the recruitment for the grad program, university information is not provided to assessors, preventing any bias relating to the prestige of the university a graduate studied at or their marks, which may have been impacted by their ability to study if they were having to work to support themselves.
