Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Are you a student passionate about the environment and sustainability looking for a paid summer internship? We need your energy to help decarbonise Aotearoa and safeguard the planet for future generations.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental and Sustainability Intern in Clyde this summer!
You will work closely with Jenny one of our awesome environment advisors, on projects that support you to learn about the work that Contact does and provide you with experience relevant to your area of study, interest, or expertise. You will be supported by your mentor and the Sustainability team. A focus of work will be assisting Contact’s Native Fish Management Programme through tasks such as the trap and transfer of migratory fish, data collection and a wide range of biodiversity related projects.
What to Expect:
Our summer internship program starts with a virtual induction where you’ll learn about our Contact story. You’ll connect with other interns and graduates, and meet some of our leaders who will share some insights on the program and what to expect. Throughout the internship, you’ll have assigned tasks, responsibilities and projects to complete. You’ll also be enrolled in an online learning pathway with eLearning modules to complete over the summer, and you’ll have a dedicated buddy to help support you along the way.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.

Our strategy is to lead Aotearoa's decarbonisation by growing renewable development and creating outstanding customer experiences.
The culture is very authentic and welcoming, both in and outside of office hours.
Flexible working hours with emphasis on getting the job done rather than unproductive work.
The people are super friendly and supportive, flexible working arrangements, interesting work.
You're encouraged to block out a work hour of your week in your calendar and use that to focus on self-learning.
I have found myself as a graduate in meetings and bumping into our CEO, CFO and heads of different business areas a lot. Everyone has time for you, no matter the question.
Sometimes not enough work for entry level and sometimes work can be heavy at times.
Not super social workplaces, as most people based in major cities work from home.
Not very transparent with career development, salary bands per job etc.
My first couple of rotations were a bit unorganised, not much planned work.
There is a lack of transparency around career progression, especially regarding pay bands and what is needed to move from one level to the next.
