Your role

As a Graduate, you’ll be trained in core technical skills and put through extensive project management training to ace your career in the actuarial market. You'll also get the chance to work with experts across Deloitte Asia Pacific, where you can learn first-hand how actuarial skill sets can be combined with other non-actuarial abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary analytics team to help major insurance clients target customers who are most likely to leave and purchase cover elsewhere. 
  • Work with a bank’s quantitative modelling team to help them develop their credit risk models. 
  • Work for a large insurer to assess the value for a potential acquisition of an insurance company.
  • Conduct an actuarial liability valuation of a multi-billion-dollar national insurance scheme with over 4 million members.
  • Work on-site with a major client to deliver transformative changes to their finance and actuarial processes as they prepare for separation from their Bank parent.
  • Hone your valuation and modelling skills, develop your approach to delivering projects, work within teams, and build your confidence when client facing

About you

They know that as a soon-to-be or recent graduate, you may not necessarily have a tone of technical skills or experience, and that’s okay! At Deloitte, they value your ethics and the potential to grow more than anything else.

You’re someone who:  

  • Strong university results from an Actuarial Studies degree (or similar, finance, statistics, mathematics) – we’re particularly interested in students who plan to or already have their Honours.
  • You’re keen to continue your studies with a postgraduate Actuarial qualification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, you strive for excellence!
  • A love for working with people and good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Willingness to collaborate within a team
  • Self-awareness and good emotional intelligence to navigate between clients with competing priorities

Pros

  • Lots of opportunities/resources and the amount of learning opportunities and changing work.

  • The team are amazing and been very welcoming, and graduates cohort is inclusive and inspiring.

  • Very Flexible. I am able to leave early if required and not feel guilty.

  • Exceptional facilities, showers, towel service, standing desks.

  • There is a definitive journey within Deloitte. It is highly structured.

Cons

    • Timesheet and unitlisation.

    • The work can be tough and mundane as that is just the nature of the job. It has been hard as the interview process did not feel completely honest about what the day-to-day of the job actually entailed. Further, we are expected to do a lot of study outside of work for the first 5 months as part of a compulsory diploma all first year graduates have to do.

    • Organisational structure can be cumbersome/confusing.

    • Tight deadlines or turnaround... make it hard to plan out workflow sometimes.

    • A healthy work-life balance can sometimes not be encouraged by all.
