Do you have a passion for research?

We are currently seeking a proactive and innovative Business Researcher to join Deloitte’s Information Service team in Wellington.

This is a non-client facing role that focuses on providing quality secondary research services to support the firm’s client and internal projects.

We work closely with client and industry teams to ensure they have the information they need. The work of the Information Service team offers daily information challenges on wide-ranging topics. On any given day you could be conducting desk research on sustainable finance or construction, banking or batteries.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to research, select, analyse, and present data and information.

You are curious and questioning, and tenacious in your hunt for the right information. You can digest and summarise large amounts of information, are confident writing and presenting and have strong communication skills. You are a critical and lateral thinker who can turn an ambiguous information request into a research product that adds real value for our clients.

You don’t need to have particular expertise in any given subject area – you will learn on the job. The key ability is being a ‘dot connector’ – you can see seeing patterns and trends within seemingly unrelated topics and data.

The Information Service team work closely together, juggling research and project work, so being a flexible and supportive team player who enjoys working collaboratively is important.

Other key attributes include:

  • Have, or are working towards, a tertiary qualification in economics, finance or business; or in librarianship, research, or a related discipline
  • Excellent engagement skills with people at all levels
  • Ability to apply your knowledge of the New Zealand economic, business and government environment to understand and meet our client’s information needs
  • Some experience in online database research and information analysis; you should be proficient utilising search techniques on databases and internet searching
  • A strong customer focus with a history of exceptional client service
  • The ability to work well within a fast-paced, highly focused and deadline driven environment
  • Highly accurate, numerate and analytical
  • Able to exercise confidentiality, discretion, and personal sensitivity

In return you are being offered the opportunity to join one of the world's leading professional services firms. On offer for the right candidate is a competitive remuneration package and fantastic professional learning and development opportunities tailored to you and your career goals.

Pros and cons of working at Deloitte New Zealand

Pros

  • Lots of opportunities/resources and the amount of learning opportunities and changing work.

  • The team are amazing and been very welcoming, and graduates cohort is inclusive and inspiring.

  • Very Flexible. I am able to leave early if required and not feel guilty.

  • Exceptional facilities, showers, towel service, standing desks.

  • There is a definitive journey within Deloitte. It is highly structured.

Cons

    • Timesheet and unitlisation.

    • The work can be tough and mundane as that is just the nature of the job. It has been hard as the interview process did not feel completely honest about what the day-to-day of the job actually entailed. Further, we are expected to do a lot of study outside of work for the first 5 months as part of a compulsory diploma all first year graduates have to do.

    • Organisational structure can be cumbersome/confusing.

    • Tight deadlines or turnaround... make it hard to plan out workflow sometimes.

    • A healthy work-life balance can sometimes not be encouraged by all.
