Law Graduate at Dentons New Zealand
Bachelor of Laws at University of Otago
6:30 AM
I usually try to go for a run before work. The early sunrise is definitely making it a lot easier to wake up recently!
8:30 AM
I arrive at work around 8:30 am and say hello to our receptionist Lucy on the way in. I begin my day by checking my emails and seeing what meetings I have on my calendar for the day.
9:00 AM
I draft a couple of paragraphs on potential changes to legislation following the election for Dentons’ monthly ESG newsletter.
10:00 AM
The Environment and Planning team has our weekly meeting. This is a good opportunity to see what everyone is working on, and also to let them team know my capacity for the week. It’s also nice to check in with what people have been up to over the weekend.
10:30 AM
This morning I am tasked with drafting a response letter to a council regarding conditions for an upcoming construction project.
12:30 PM
I break for lunch around 12:30. It was such a nice day today that went for a walk and had lunch on Parliament lawn.
1:30 PM
I attend our fortnightly Foundational Legal Skills session for grads. These sessions allow us to learn what each of the teams do in more detail.
3:00 PM
This afternoon I review expert evidence for an upcoming hearing. This hearing has quite a few experts, but today I am focusing on the Air Quality expert evidence.
4:00 PM
I sit in with Ana, a senior associate in the team, for a quick check-in meeting with a client regarding an ongoing matter.
5:00 PM
After checking my to-do list for today and tomorrow, I catch the bus home just after 5 pm. I grab a lolly from the lolly jar on my way out!
7:00 PM
This evening I cook dinner quickly before heading off to a monthly book club.
