HR Graduate at Department of Industry, Science and Resources
Bachelor of Science (Psychology) at Australian National University (ANU)
What’s your job about?
Currently, I’m in the Workforce Planning team, helping the Department to ensure they have the people and knowledge they need to best serve the government. Overall, my rotations have taught me how to ensure the people at work can thrive.
What’s your background?
I studied Psychology and French at university – I’ve always been interested in how to best communicate and work with people. Knowing what makes people tick means that I can help shape the workplace to ensure they are happy and healthy while they work!
Could someone with a different background do your job?
I think anyone who is willing to talk to others and understand what people and the business need can do my job.
What’s the coolest thing about your job?
Getting to meet everyone across the department! I’ve had incredible opportunities to meet people in all kinds of areas, doing all kinds of interesting work. We even got to visit Questacon as a graduate cohort!
What are the limitations of your job?
While I’m very eager to learn all I can, I am unfortunately still learning – there are some things I can’t quite work on by myself as I don’t have the experience or expertise to do the job well. Luckily, everyone is incredibly supportive, and while there’s limitations in the work I can do, I’m still invited to a wide range of meetings and shown all kinds of work, so I still gain the insights and experience I need to eventually pick up those roles.
