Salary at Department of Industry, Science and Resources

Working as an APS, there are no pay bonuses on your salary. The benefit is the 15.4% superannuation on top of your salary. Graduates are remunerated well. Pay rises are on the basis of applying for a higher ranked position.

I am not aware of their being any bonuses. The pay is adequate but needs to be increased to reduce the impact of inflation and cost of living.

Graduate pay is appalling for the amount of work we do. After the first 1 to 2 months most grads operate at an APS 5/6 level and are given responsibilities that reflect those levels but are still paid at an APS 3 rate.

I think the okay is ok for a grad for the hours you do and what is expected of you. Apparently, our department is paid a bit less than others.

Pay is satisfactory, with a mandatory move to Canberra it doesn't always stretch far enough to provide financial peace of mind depending on the one's circumstances. I am unaware of the bonus system.

Graduates at DISR start at an APS3 and I feel they should start at a higher salary as I am always completing tasks above this paygrade. Additionally with teams being understand it is extremely common to be completing duties of an APS5.

compared to a lot of graduate programs its somewhat better but with the cost of living currently its difficult to support ones self, especially if they have to move to Canberra and rent here

While my company pays well overall, I don't think offering a 3.3 pay is good enough, particularly considering how expensive everything has become.

Pay is quite reasonable overall, however, the cost of living in Canberra is excessive, and pay should be more reflective of this. As the cost of living rises, it feels like while living in Canberra I am spending almost everything I earn just to scrape by. I feel this is partially a symptom of being forced to relocate to Canberra for the position. Pay really needs to be higher to reflect the increase in the cost of living or allow graduates the ability to live in other states that do not have excessively high costs of living expenses.

The APS does not offer industry-competitive salary or bonuses. There is no mechanism to recognise level of qualifications at DISR and advancement is often tied to years of experience as much or more than merit.

It's competitive for entry-level staff but flattens out over time.

I think it pays well

Pay is reasonable. I have found that as my experience has increased I am committing more time and effort than I am being rewarded for. As a perk of the graduate program I will be promoted shortly and will be more satisfied with my pay.

The increase in pay scale is good for those who progress through the ranks. Compared to other APS agencies, it is on the lower pay scale though. No bonuses.

Graduate pay is graduate pay. The public service does not have bonuses in the same sense that the private sector does.

Starting salary was attractive, and the department has excellent career progression opportunities if you are seeking a higher salary.

Best perks are half price movie tickets and the $200 health and wellbeing subsidy. It is great they cover moving expenses as if they did not, I am sure they would struggle to recruit graduates.

I have not been made aware of many of the perks, as communication on this front is poor. I did claim a healthy living subsidy, though this is the only perk I had been made aware of.

I consider being able to meet and see a lot of scientists and scientific facilities as a great and educational perk

$200 to spend on exercise-related expenses, plus working with a provider that gives 4 free appointments per injury/condition as long as it was caused by work, happened at work, or affects work.

Relocation expenses covered and discount movie tickets are highly useful and have gone a long way for me.

Moving expenses to relocate for the job are covered, as well as any work-related travel expenses. No real perks exist.

Relocation assistance for those who move to Canberra for the Graduate Program. All of my expenses were paid for, and it was a great support.

Parking in the city on the weekend for free. Many coffee shops to choose from.

Discount movie tickets, flexibility with leave (e.g. moving homes), flexible workplace arrangements, and accounting for work-related travels.
