Diversity at Duncan Cotterill

7.4
7.4 rating for Diversity, based on 29 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
In terms of men and women it seems quite equal. In terms of ethnic minorities and the LGBTIQA+ community there does not seem to be many people who fit within this category. I think the maternity leave policies are good. Recruitment, retention and promotion are probably on par with other firms. No childcare is offered but people can work from home if needed.

I think they do a good job with diversity. Whoever is best suited to the job I feel would get the job. Everyone is very respectful to one another, and I have not seen any signs of disrespect.

The office is predominantly women and there is great diversity in that respect. However, there is little ethnic diversity in the office. DC seems to have very flexible parental leave options. I don't understand there to be any issues with recruitment, retention or promotion. Between the time I was a clerk and a grad the office is still pretty similar, with some new faces.

The firm has a high number of women, including amongst the partnership. The firm has good racial diversity but still predominately NZ-European.

As far as I am aware my firm is accommodating with maternity leave. I have not seen any instances of promoting diversity in other instances.

My company has made improvements in this area although there is an aspect of it which seems like tokenism I think that there is growing diversity with women in senior positions but there is still a way to go. There is very little diversity of ethnic minorities and this could be improved.

Females and males are treated completely equally at DC which is great!

Good on child care/parental leave. Unclear regarding the other policies. Not a particularly diverse firm in terms of ethnicity and LGBT, but that is the norm for many law firms.

Majority of our graduates over recent years have been women! However, I think better efforts to diversify our workforce in respect of ethnicity could be made.

The company makes an effort in general but there are no specific initiatives that i know of

Our male/female ratio in the partnership is poor, but that is not something that can be fixed overnight. I think the firm is alert to these issues, as well as diversity. We now have a new parental leave policy, which provides further support to mothers (and fathers) leave.

The firm is aware of diversity issues but it is difficult to see where the progress is (and that is true for the whole profession we have talked about not just gender diversity for a long time and there is still underrepresentation of women and cultural minorities in the profession).

Good level of diversity among entire staff. Good staff policies i.e. maternity leave.
Graduate, Auckland - 31 Jan 2020
Reasonably good but still a long way to go for ethnic minorities and LGBT

The Firm has just implemented extended parental leave and care packages for new parents.

I think our company is diverse in everyway aside from ethnic minorities. However, there are noticeable changes in this area with the recent hires. We also have a great parental leave policy.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
I'm not sure - this might be something we need to work on?
