We’re looking for students from a range of disciplines including Accounting, Commerce, Law, Engineering, Science, Information Technology / Information Systems, Actuarial Studies, Economics, Psychology and Human Resources.   

Eligibility:  

To be eligible for our Career Compass Programme, you must meet the following criteria:  

  • You are on track to complete your degree in mid or late 2026 or early 2027  
  • You are a New Zealand or Australian citizen, a New Zealand or Australian permanent resident or a holder of a valid work visa

What to expect:  

All candidates are required to register their interest via an online application attaching their passport (or alternative ID), CV and academic transcript   

Our recruitment team will be in contact prior to the program to confirm application outcomes and all further details.   

Programmes will take place in our EY offices across one or two full days, depending on location: 

  • Auckland: September/October (two days) 
  • Christchurch: September/October (two days) 
  • Wellington: September/October (two days)

Pros and cons of working at EY New Zealand

Pros

  • Everyone is really friendly and there is a lot of support provided to us especially for someone just starting out.

  • The flexibility and support you get in between projects.

  • We did a training week at the start which is standard. Most impressed with our online learnings platform.

  • There is absolute transparency over future prospects.

  • Good workplace culture of inclusion, fair management, good amount of social events organised by EY.

Cons

    • Hours and overtime.

    • Working at a big firm who hires the best of the best I can't help but feel imposter syndrome regularly.

    • Bonuses are non-existent. Pay feels far too little for the work we do.

    • Work demand varies which can make it hard when your top priority is to be on chargeable work and you cannot get on it

    • I feel there has been little training, and in the wrong areas.
