Associate, senior, manager, senior manager, associate director, partner. At the lower ranks you move based on the 1 July cycle, then as you get higher up you must show you have what it takes to satisfy the specific position.

Pathway is clear and also multiple avenues to choose from.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Easy to move within service lines, dependent on qualifications and interests. Ability to move up ranks also good as many opportunities.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Promotion opportunities are too structured, and I feel there is little opportunity to excel. Additionally, there are too many office politics to progress.

Feeling good thus far. I feel like EY is a reputable company that will give me options in my life. Also, I see a clear path to progression within the company too

For the first maybe 6ish ranks you will be promoted 1 rank every year in some cases someone may be double promoted (not a regular occurance).

Progression and Promotion happen every year, no special requirements for the first few years. But toward the positions managers, good performance, technical skills and presentation ability seems to be essential.

Quite clear rank expectations are set. Obviously at the moment with a recession it is looking not as good, but from what i have heard 3-4 years ago it was exactly as the expectations set. We often have team meetings and they set who you can talk to to help you work towards a promotion. We have our mentour who you can set out what you have achieved and they can help you work towards achieving the other expectations.

Promotion from graduate level seems prescriptive. Opportunities for further development come on an exceptional basis.

There are opportunities for progression, but some people can get stuck in a 'queue'. This means it can be challenging to get promoted until business need allows or a position becomes available.
Midlevel, Auckland - 21 Dec 2021
Promotion and progression is very structured at the grad level so nothing to worry about. But also there lacks opportunity to progress early if you are standing out from the crowd.
Graduate, Wellington - 21 Dec 2021
Rank expectations are outlined clearly and everyone has access to them so it is clear what is expected if you want to move up / get promoted. The performance review cycles/process are clear and if you want to aim for a promotion there is a clear and helpful process to get you there. There is also a support structure which helps you to set and achieve goals / get promoted

Typically move a rank a year - but if you're a high performer, possibility to move two a year. Team I'm in is fair in promotion and pushing people as best as they can upwards.
Graduate, Auckland - 20 Sep 2021
Progression is rigidly linked to length of service with no clear metrics to work towards. It's typically easier to leave the firm and come back to get a decent promotion.
Graduate, Whakatane - 14 Jul 2019
Promotion does occur, although it happens rarely, some graduates are able to move to senior roles after one year here. Moving up the ranks would require showing that you have an understanding of the business, and knowledge about delivering proposals, projects etc. and can do so with little oversight.

For staff, if performance is on target/expected then there is a very likely chance of promotion to the next hierarchy. This is good in terms of the different tasks we can experience and new things we can learn.
Midlevel, Auckland - 05 Jul 2019
Takes time (a few years), performance, eventually the ability to sell work and a business need/case.
