7.7 rating for Recruitment, based on 37 reviews
Please describe the interview process and assessments.
The lack of diversity really shocked me, you strive for diversity in the office but don't prioritise it in the hiring process, particularly with grads and interns.
Graduate, Auckland - 09 Sep 2024
Online assessment with multiple components and then if selected, an interview with two representatives from the company service line you're applying within.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Straight-forward process - Interview and activity day. Interview conducted by variation of staff which is good to show whether the applicant will be a good fit into the company.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Very easy recruitment process, no complaints.
Graduate, Auckland - 30 Aug 2024

One 2 hour assessment, online interview and in person interview.

1) Deliver the online application via official home page. 2) Receive and complete an online assessment invitation (Some short & long questions in reading, writing, speaking). 3) Receive a face-to-face interview opportunity and attend it. 4) Offer received after the interview; the waiting time may as long as 1 to 2 weeks.
Graduate, Auckland - 23 Aug 2024
Online video recorded interviews was first, and pyschometric testing. Then once you passed that, an in person testing day which was quite fun.

Was fairly slow and hard to reach anybody

Midlevel, Auckland - 21 Dec 2021
Interviews and assessments were positively framed and informal.
Graduate, Wellington - 21 Dec 2021
Everyone was friendly and approachable during the process! The only thing I would say is the case study can be a bit tricky if you aren't from a commerce background.
Midlevel, Auckland - 21 Dec 2021
Good, covered a lot. Gave me enough opportunities to get to know the organisation and presented a realistic view of what working there would be like and what the people were like.
Graduate, Auckland - 29 Nov 2021
Graduate recruitment run well, however rigid negotiation and completely different treatment (and benefits) for lateral with equivalent experience.
Graduate, Whakatane - 14 Jul 2019
I only had an interview and it was so comfortable, it felt more like a conversation
Midlevel, Hamilton - 12 Jul 2019
Applied online, completed two online tests, invited to assessment day which composed of a solo interview, a group exercise and a networking lunch.
Graduate, Auckland - 12 Jul 2019
Split out into two sessions - interview with staff and group assessment. Good to see how the person interacts on both an individual and group level. Intern programme a good opportunity to know whether the grad role is a good fit.
Midlevel, Auckland - 05 Jul 2019
These are fine. Assessment day consisted of: Interview with Partner and Manager, team case work and networking session.
Midlevel, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
I had a phone interview and a meeting with a partner. Did not do assessment day.
Midlevel, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
What questions were you asked in your interviews?
A time when I was a leader and had to "coach" others, a "better" question that I had, why do I want to work for EY. This interview was a year ago now, hard to remember the others.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Why have I applied? What are my interests/what I would do in my downtime? Strengths and Weaknesses? How can I benefit the company? What are my goals for the future?
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Interview was very conversational, and lots of opportunities to ask the interviewers questions about themselves, the work they do. General interview questions, of course, which are generally more situational.
Graduate, Auckland - 30 Aug 2024
None that I could prepare for! It was a very relaxed interview also something that I wasn't expecting
Consultant, Wellington - 30 Aug 2024
I was asked about myself, what I am doing, why I am doing it, prior job experiences, what my goals are, my ideal future, past experiences in certain situation..
Graduate, Wellington - 26 Aug 2024
Some typical questions. Introduce yourself How to deal with people, how to solve problems when you face difficulties etc. Some more innovative question. Maybe require you design an event and consider what should be noticed during the process etc.
Graduate, Auckland - 23 Aug 2024
Why I want to join, and my CV walk through
Midlevel, Auckland - 21 Dec 2021
Standard behavioral interview questions
Midlevel, Auckland - 21 Dec 2021
Lots of scenario based questions - e.g. you have a lot of project due at once, can you think of when this happened and how you dealt with it. Challenging situation - what did you do and what did you learn, those types of questions. Also some about the role I applied for "why this role? what do you think it does?"
Graduate, Auckland - 29 Nov 2021
Dependent on team - CCaSS was more focused on my core passions, what experiences I had, what brought me to do work on sustainability,
Graduate, Auckland - 20 Sep 2021
What goals I had, background about myself, why I chose them

Why I want to be part of EY, transactions and my specific sub service line. What macro-economic factors would impact our clients. What I would be able to bring to the team.

Graduate, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
Questions about education, past work experiences and interests.
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
More of a conversation driven by CV i.e. previous jobs, responsibilities etc.
Midlevel, Wellington - 03 Jul 2019
Standard behavior interview questions but fast (i.e. requiring shorter answers) but this could have just been my interviewer.

Weaknesses, time I dealt with a difficult customer, general business issue I've read about recently, specifics about my CV experience
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Just be yourself and prepare the simple things properly eg; "tell me about yourself" "what are you weaknesses" - these are real easy questions to trip up on because they're so simple that they get overlooked, but good answers to these questions will really impress your recruiters
Graduate, Auckland - 09 Sep 2024
Use the interview guide on the website.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
It's alright to be nervous, but make sure that you communicate clearly and in a respectful and friendly manner. Given the company, they are looking for someone that can grow with the company but will be a good edition to the culture and community of the company. Make sure to do research on the company as well before you apply to understand the procedures and whether it is the best for you/whether you know what you are applying for.
Graduate, Wellington - 06 Sep 2024
Don't be intimidated, do your DD, and be yourself.
Graduate, Auckland - 30 Aug 2024
Try to take the pressure of yourself. Added pressure can take away from your authentic self and make you stiff in an interview/assessment day
Consultant, Auckland - 30 Aug 2024
Nothing you can do to prepare! Just be yourself as that is why they are hiring you :)
Consultant, Wellington - 30 Aug 2024
Before interviews I think it is good to practice. Run through a mock interview in your own time and look up some generic questions online. For the most part you will be able to practice question that will likely come up in the interview but it also helps you gain some confidence for when it actually comes to sitting in front of your interviewer because you'll be able to mold your practice answer to the questions asked by the interviewer.
Graduate, Wellington - 26 Aug 2024
Prepare how to introduce yourself. Prepare the answers for some typical interview questions, it must be useful. There must be sometime for you to ask questions back to them. Try to prepare a few questions that you have basic understanding to the firm.
Graduate, Auckland - 23 Aug 2024
Highlight your achievements outside your academic life. A lot of people have decent enough grades at uni, but especially for consulting it helps if you have other experience. I.e. team captains, volunteering etc. that really sets you up as a more well rounded person.
Graduate, Auckland - 20 Aug 2024
Get to know people in the company

Prepare your answers in the STAR format! Definitely helped me answer their questions.
Graduate, Auckland - 12 Jul 2019
To start with an open mind and look at the bigger picture. As a graduate you get assigned with very specific tasks, so you don't get to understand how that ties into the entire audit.

Be relaxed and don't be afraid to ask questions yourself
Graduate, Auckland - 03 Jul 2019
Meet people from the company in advance.
