We are a global leader in Insurance broking, risk management and consulting, with over 39,000 employees worldwide in over 130 countries. We have a global reach with a local presence and pride ourselves on being a socially responsible and an ethical organisation expressed through our Shared Values, The Gallagher Way. We are proud to have been awarded, for the 13th consecutive year, the 2023 World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Institute (2023), as well as being one of Insurance Business Australia Top Insurance Employers and Forbes Best Employer for Women.
We have been nurturing the careers of graduates and interns for almost 50 years and we take as much care with today’s grads as we did with our very first, our founder’s grandson.
Joining Gallagher means much more than joining a graduate program. You’ll be joining a global community who care about sustainability, about diversity, about doing good. About you and where your career can go.
The Gallagher Graduate Program is designed for you to learn more about what it means to be an Insurance Broker. It is a rotational program, exposing you to different areas of the business.
Gallagher was founded by Arthur J Gallagher in a basement office in Chicago in 1927. Our Global Chairman, CEO and President, J Patrick Gallagher – Arthur's grandson – started as an intern in 1972. Gallagher has remained true to its origins and places a strong emphasis on maintaining a family feel; a unique culture for a global organisation.
Our Australian branch network includes 32+ branches, and we partner with more than 100,000 Australian businesses, from small businesses through to multinational corporations and iconic brands.
Here at Gallagher, we embrace diversity and difference, and we’re looking for graduates from all walks of life and all areas of study. We look at more than your GPA and are interested in hearing from people who are well rounded contributors, whatever that may look like in your life.
We welcome graduates from any discipline; it’s more important to us that you have enthusiasm and drive, than comprehensive prior knowledge or understanding of the industry.
While our graduate program runs for 12 months, we hope you’ll stay longer. Once you successfully complete your program, you’ll be offered a full time Account Executive position with us and become part of our growing graduate alumni community.
Gallagher is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer committed to the principles of workplace diversity and inclusion. We welcome all people regardless of ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity and lifestyle choices. We are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity, equity and inclusion.
Just like our culture, our recruitment process is inclusive. We invite you to speak with us if you require any accommodations to set you up for success during the hiring period.
Please contact Gallagher’s Talent Manager, Samantha Grant: Samantha.grant@ajg.com.au if you would like to discuss how we can support you.
Assisting clients with their insurance needs
In my current rotation, the general expectation is to learn as much as possible each day. No specific responsibilities have been assigned.
This obviously depends on the team we are in. Some teams, such as workplace risk, don't have the workload or type of work to sustain a full-time graduate role and therefore some days a left with not too much to do. In saying this, though, WPR has offered the opportunity for lots of client interactions and site visits which have been very valuable. In other teams such as Corporate and Fin Lines, they have still offered these experiences (albeit not to the same volume) but they have also offered opportunities to develop our traditional broking skills and stakeholder relationship management, which will be more valuable in the role we have next year.

The people are quite good here, as is the work life balance.
The people and the industry. The office is full of people I enjoy working with and the industry itself is one based on relationships, and therefore have plenty of opportunities to socialise and network with insurers, underwriters, etc. In the graduate program, there is a strong focus on our learning and development, meaning we have been offered plenty of opportunities to gain experiences through client interaction and mentoring.
Culture and people
The opportunity to be mentored by industry leaders.
Good people
The lack of structural organisation, and leadership is disappointing. As is the company's approach to remuneration of employees.
Our office has experienced a high amount of change recently, especially in staff turnover. This is mainly due to the lack of experience insurance people in the industry and therefore people often move around. Not so much a Gallagher issue in itself, but we have lost/about to lose some really good and talented employees that we have just started to build working relationship with.
Specific to the grad program, being placed in a team that is not prepared to accommodate a graduate.
The loss/ reduction of forum's and social events
