Your role

The Student Researcher Program’s primary objective is to foster academic collaborations with students through research at Google. Join them for a paid Student Researcher position that offers the opportunity to work directly with Google research scientists and engineers on research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research to develop solutions for real-world, large-scale problems and focus on computer vision research for building climate solutions.

About you

Minimum qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD or Master's program in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in one area of computer science (e.g., Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Data Science or Machine Intelligence/Artificial Intelligence).

Preferred qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and will return to the program after completion of the internship.
  • Experience as a researcher (e.g., internships, full-time, or at a lab).
  • Experience contributing to research communities or efforts, including publishing papers in conferences or journals.
  • Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Go, Python, etc.).
  • Ability to design and execute research agendas.

Benefits

Google internships are paid and they provide a housing stipend as well as a relocation bonus for those eligible, to help offset some of your relocation and housing costs, and resources to help you find housing once you’ve accepted your offer.

When you become an employee, they offer benefits such as:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employee assistance programs
  • Competitive compensation
  • Paid time off, including vacation, bereavement, jury duty, sick leave, parental leave, disability, and holidays
  • A hybrid work model with remote work opportunities is also available
  • Room and opportunities to grow

Training & development

The Student Researcher Program offers more opportunities for research students to work on critical research projects at Google in a less structured way. The program allows opportunities beyond the limitations of traditional internship programs on aspects such as duration, time commitment, and working location (with options for on-site or remote). The topics student researchers work on tend to be open-ended and exploratory, and don't always have a clear deliverable like a traditional internship would.

Career progression

At Google, internships are the launchpad to a dynamic career trajectory. Beginning with hands-on projects and various opportunities, interns gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, fostering innovation, teamwork and growth. The transformative experience paves the way for a seamless transition into Google's diverse and impactful workforce, shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

Internships should be compulsory for everyone if you have the resources at your disposal. I would say try to diversify your internship experience in college because college is the right time to take up such responsibilities and learn a few important things.
