Are you Hamilton City Council’s next Assistant Transport Network Engineer?

We’re looking for a Transport Engineer who wants to put theory into practice and kickstart their career in local government. If you think it could be you, let’s talk.

For this role, you must have:

  • A National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering Technology (or almost completed)
  • Awareness of traffic engineering principles, transport law, NZS 3901, RITS, COPTTM and relevant statutes and regulations

What will I be part of?

You’ll work alongside a team of experienced and talented professionals who are passionate about providing safe and trusted infrastructure for the community.

Our Transport team is highly collaborative giving you the opportunity to develop your skills across multiple transport programmes of work including, Network Management,Safety, Development and the CERF programme.

This job is for you if you:

  • Are technically competent with some knowledge of CAD Software
  • Enjoy working on a computer to prepare consultation letters and council reports
  • Are keen to design traffic restriction change proposals, and audit completed works
  • Enjoy getting stuck in, owning your responsibilities and contributing to the teams success
  • Have strong communication skills to respond to customers over the phone, email and in-person
  • Comfortably work autonomously, manage your workload and problem solve
  • (It’s also for you if you don’t meet EVERY one of these points. These are our nice-to-haves, not our must-haves!)

This job isn’t for you if you:

  • Are looking for a role in the field – this is primarily office based
  • Shy away from putting your hand up, challenging yourself and learning new skills on the job

Pros and cons of working at Hamilton City Council

Pros

  • Constantly changing environment and some of the people I have met.

  • Extremely supportive environment Fun work place culture Friendly staff.

  • Good people and support from the organization

  • Probably the health insurance; I haven't had to use it yet, but it's nice to know it's there if I need it.

  • Fexibility/freedom given

Cons

    • A lot of uncertainty around job security, not a very creative environment.

    • Low pay Limited recourses

    • So far I haven't come across any negatives

    • Lack of clarity in objectives at times
