They are all wonderful

I think the managers in my team are great. Due to the volume of what they are expected to deliver I do think it leads to areas where there need to be improvement including ensuring there are good contingency plans should say managers get pulled into other work and need to be replaced so we know who we can go to etc.

My direct manager is in my team although our workstreams do not collaborate at all and we work on completely different topics. I have no collaboration with them which makes it difficult to receive feedback because they have such little experience of the quality of work I produce. Internal communication is sufficient, although I would value more warmth, personality, interest in my life etc in a manager.

The majority of managers are kind and accessible, however a few can be promoted simply based on expertise and tenure rather than people management skills. Managers can tend to get busy and prioritize check in sessions, which can be difficult for new starters who are still learning to navigate the work.

Every manager is excellent, intelligent, and capable at their work in their own way. Due to the nature of the progression system, some managers are, or are not managerial personality types, so experiences can vary.

Very good managers, approachable, friendly, easy to get along with. My manager takes more of a hands-off approach to my work but is very supportive of me and happy to help when needed.

My manager is a great mentor, communicator, and positive influence on my work, and wellbeing at work.

MFAT has incredible people. Although managers are hugely accomplished and busy, they always make time to talk to new graduates and provide advice. They are not afraid to show that they are human. Praise and thanks for tasks is given regularly.

Managers are very experienced

Very regimented performance feedback structure. Manager quality is dependent on which Division and Team you are placed in, some are great and others, not so much.

Managers at MFAT vary. My Unit Manager is very helpful, although not overly personable. My Divisional Manager does not have much regard for wellbeing or mental health, but is very impressive and can learn a lot from him.

Very friendly but not a whole lot of openness to discussions around workload or time in lieu; appreciate their imparting wisdom but would struggle to go to them with any issues.

good ppl but not great at managing, haven't been shown how to do things

Fantastic. Consistently available, good comms and great expectations. Gives opportunities for stretch but doesn't set you up to fail.

My managers are both readily available on the work floor and I have regular engagement with both my immediate manager and my manager's manager. They are both great and take time to provide candid advice.

Highly individual dependent.
Midlevel, Wellington - 17 May 2022
My manager is approachable, even though they are very busy they make time to address any questions we have or provide help where needed. They took the time to work on my personal development plan with me and provide clearly feedback about how my work aligns with the wider businesses and where I should focus my development.
