Loved the training. 8 Weeks of learning about the ministry and practicing our skills before we enter the job
Graduate, Wellington - 13 Aug 2024
The internally delivered skill based training was particularly valuable, and the opportunity through the onboarding process to get connected with the other graduates was very valuable to develop a support network starting at the ministry.

Really enjoyed the training and learning opportunities.

The Foundations program was a great introduction the Ministry, although the training/onboarding is severely lacking once actually arriving into the role
Graduate, Wellington - 13 Aug 2024
The onboarding foundations programme was thorough and gave an opportunity to understand how the organisation works as a whole, as well as connecting with other new grads.

We had an 8-week induction program, where we learnt core writing skills, completed foundational courses about key topics, and learnt the systems we use on a day to-day basis. We had the opportunity to connect with coworkers across the Ministry and develop our networks before going into our role.
Graduate, Wellington - 13 Aug 2024
Started with an 8 week foundations course which contained a range of internal and external speakers and a group project. Plenty of online development courses are available as well as other learning and development opportunities and in-person workshops.

An eight-week training programme is a great way to start at MFAT. Although bumps and hiccups can be expected, the training made it much easier to join my team with some knowledge and understanding of MFAT and the role.

We spent 2 months in formal training (Foundations Programme) and then joined our teams. The Foundations Programme provided a high level overview of the entire organisation.

First year graduates must complete 'Foundations' which is a number of workshops and courses to familiarise you with and improve base knowledge around areas key to the Ministry.
Graduate, Wellington - 29 Jun 2022
Formal training is provided as a Grad, but dispersed throughout your first year. 80% of training in MFAT is on the job.
Graduate, Wellington - 29 Jun 2022
Foundations training programme is fairly comprehensive and well-designed. A few of the sessions scheduled for late in the year teach skills I have needed since very early on (such as writing style). Informal training by the lead adviser is exceptional.
Graduate, Wellington - 23 May 2022
formal training is good, informal ... less so ppl just expect you to know things. very hard if you have never worked int he public sector before
Graduate, Wellington - 19 May 2022
Very good training. Comprehensive, interesting and relevant.

You get an awesome in-depth training provided in your first year, and these opportunities continue through your career.
Graduate, Wellington - 17 May 2022
Actually tailored for the role, which is great.

The first year of the grad programme is spent doing Foundations. Foundations is a one year development programme of courses, visits and learning. You spend around 10% of your first year doing the different courses/training that make up Foundations. It is also a great way to get to know the other grads across the Ministry better.

So many opportunities for training.
