Internal promotion is very prominent at Saab Australia, with vacancies often denoting that internal applicants are welcome. The requirements for promotion are denoted as the requirements for that position.

Time and experience
not even on my radar at this stage
Graduate, Adelaide - 07 Nov 2023
About as expected for a corporate company
Graduate, Adelaide - 06 Nov 2023
I am in the graduate program so I am not too sure about promotion opportunities. However jobs are always being advertised internally on the work home page

I think the IPM assessments could be more considerate of the individual's work, and expectations for what needs to be done to get higher scores should be outlined with examples (I only found out upon the time of rating what is required). my impression is that the ratings favour more those who are extroverted, participate in social clubs, over those diligent work practices who prioritise the completion of work, and extra effort towards work quality.

There's not much information on career progression and career progression opportunities further than a junior engineer/engineer that has been provided thus far
Graduate, Melbourne - 17 Oct 2023
There has not been enough of info-sessions/workshops on career opportunities and promotion. Info packs/documents or workshops would help mitigate this issue.
Graduate, Adelaide - 17 Oct 2023
Mid- and long-term opportunities are still somewhat obfuscated from me as a graduate. I hope this will become more clear throughout the next year.
Short-term, I see I will be able to exit the graduate program into a full-time ongoing engineering role at the end of the 2 year program.
Graduate, Adelaide - 17 Oct 2023
Seem to be lots of training courses based on developing skills to jump into certain levels such as team lead or engineering manager. This paired with being able to apply for formal learning such as masters degrees gives outlines on how to achieve certain roles. The specifics on how to do it is kept at a higher level so people can't tailor responses to seem 100% appropriate for a role when they aren't

Appears positive as company is growing rapidly
Graduate, Perth - 31 Oct 2022
Pretty decent overall
Graduate, Adelaide - 25 Oct 2022
I know that when I finish the graduate program, I will be able to take an engineering position in the company. Given how long many of the managers have served at the company, I'm confident management roles would be available should I choose to aim for them. I think there is also good opportunity to move across the company into different business areas if I'm interested in a different experience.
Graduate, Adelaide - 24 Oct 2022
There seems to be a lot of positions available, and a lot of opportunities to move up into management if interested. The pathways seem clear and easy to follow too, and so far all supervisors and mentors within the company have been happy to listen and aid in career progression in the direction I am interested in.
Graduate, Adelaide - 19 Oct 2022
After the graduate program, we are promoted to just "engineer", and it seems it's quite possible to be promoted to a team lead roughly 3-4 years after that.
Graduate, Adelaide - 19 Oct 2022
The opportunities are there it is very hard to move up quickly as there are so many gates
Graduate, Adelaide - 19 Oct 2022
I have already been offered a position on the graduate program when I graduate.
Intern, Adelaide - 23 Jan 2019
I think you have to be driven and determined, and also have been here for a while.
Graduate, Adelaide - 18 Jan 2019
The organisation is not overly hierarchical and so there is not necessarily and obvious path for formal promotion but it is clear that there is a path for continued professional advancement and increasing responsibility. This should then be reflected in annual salary review.
Graduate, Adelaide - 17 Jan 2019
The company structure is quite flat so promotion is slow.
Graduate, Adelaide - 17 Jan 2019
As a graduate, assuming I finish my graduate term here, we get an automatic promotion to a software engineer. Aside from that, there are a lot of promotion possibilities that tend to be offered throughout the year. It seems that if you put in the work, you will be able to move up the ranks (I'm currently unable to speak from first hand experience)
