What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
I am higher acting duties so I am already getting paid post grad program pay. ITS APS, so you don't get bonuses.
Graduate, Canberra - 13 Sep 2024
Pay is good, however, due to cost of living, any higher paying role would always look attractive but may not have the flexibility and other perks.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Sep 2024
Service delivery is a hard work and stressful job but employees are getting paid less than other APS agency. Also, since Social Work is included in service delivery, social workers are discriminated in getting some benefits as other health professionals do.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Sep 2024
I don't think we get bonuses but the salary is very good.
APS6, Brisbane - 15 Aug 2024
Pay is fine.
Graduate, Hobart - 13 Aug 2024
Strictly speaking pay and not other benefits, it does not make this organisation an attractive employer. State govt and private, even other federal gov employers, offer higher salaries. I don't think the salary would attract top talents to work for government, I also think it has a negative effect on retention.
Graduate in 2021, APS6 since April 2022, Canberra - 12 Aug 2024
Pay is adequate for public service, and the security is there. Bonuses do not exist here.
former graduate. APS employee now, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
Pay has not increased fast enough based on the cost of living which is disappointing
Graduate, Bunbury - 07 Aug 2024
I appreciate the job security of being an ongoing sta_ member. It provides peace of mind. However, the cost of living and cost of housing is making me consider less secure employment in the private sector for higher pay. I'm on 94k as an APS6 and its simply not enough to get ahead. I will note that other departments pay there APS6 sta_ at a higher rate than I am paid at Services Australia. This makes no sense to me, and I think speaks to Canberra's ivory tower mentality which I have observed in many graduates and aps colleagues from the bush capital.
APS6, Wollongong - 07 Aug 2024
Pay is ok for a graduate
Graduate, Melbourne - 07 Aug 2024
Pay is fine, I feel I've finally arrived in the middle class. If I want to go chasing big bucks some opportunities in the private sector might open up but I'm happy with the security here with my young family etc. Bonuses don't exist.
Graduate, Perth - 17 Jul 2024
Pay quite satisfactory.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
Isn't the best of the government agencies, but definitely isn't the worst. New Enterprise Agreement is a good start.
Acting APS6 (Substantive APS5), Adelaide - 08 Jul 2024
Pay for a first-year post-grad is incredible, but knowing the breadth of effort and workload required from all the differing grad teams is a little disconcerting - that some teams really push their grads to their limits (within reason), where others basically turn a blind eye and give them an extremely light workload.
Graduate, Canberra - 08 Jul 2024
Pay is quite good and increases each year both according to the enterprise agreement and within the band if you are marked as performing well for your Individual Performance Agreement.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
A little low, but to be expected from a government role.
APS5, Sydney - 05 Jul 2024
I would say that public servants have a fairly good deal in terms of pay and benefits, I know I do at my current level.
Completed Graduate Degree, Canberra - 04 Jul 2024
Pay is good. However other roles at my level have a lot less responsibility and workload than I do. Line managing 20 staff including HR, performance, social, local site responsibilities is great experience but should be more fairly compensated when peers in other groups at same level experience less delegation/work.
Grad and experienced service officer, Toowoomba - 02 Jul 2024
We don't receive bonuses but I am satisfied with my pay, particularly compared to similar roles in my location.
Graduate, Ballarat - 02 Jul 2024
It's a reasonable salary but I won't become rich here.
Graduate, Canberra - 28 Jun 2024
What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
Generous leave policies, can take 3 days cultural leave, I can work flexible hours between 7am-7pm,
Graduate, Canberra - 13 Sep 2024
Nothing free. Just having good leave policies, flexibility, WFH and HR is the perk.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Sep 2024
Employee Assistance Program is a good resource.
APS6, Brisbane - 15 Aug 2024
Trips to Canberra and placement opportunities in Melbourne/Sydney or remote.
Graduate, Hobart - 13 Aug 2024
The cost of relocation was fully covered by my employer, and they also provided me with a household pantry one-off allowance. Flex time is also great as it offers like for like leave if I work more than my usual scheduled hours, eg. I work 2 hours extra on Monday, so I can leave 2 hours earlier on Friday.
Graduate in 2021, APS6 since April 2022, Canberra - 12 Aug 2024
Decent leave policies. Though I do take issue with them requiring us to use our own annual leave to facilitate Christmas shut down - I'd happily work these days and utilise my annual leave elsewhere.
former graduate. APS employee now, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
Fully paying for work trips including generous meals allowances, hotels, flights and more Payment and reimbursements for necessary licences and checks for work Relaxed penalties for poor performance (being given chances to improve before termination)
Graduate, Bunbury - 07 Aug 2024
Job security. moving expenses. 15% super, however, I think this needs to increase with the national minimum increase otherwise its value as a perk is diluted. WFH. working from around australia via online teams. job security.
APS6, Wollongong - 07 Aug 2024
No perks
APS5, Canberra - 07 Aug 2024
travel interstate
Graduate, Melbourne - 07 Aug 2024
This is the government, there are no perks lol. Even if they fly us somewhere for some bullshit in Canberra we can't even keep the frequent flyer points. And as I said earlier, we don't even have free teas and coffees in the break room. We get generous super contributions compared to the private sector but that's because those weak private sector unions aren't asking for more. Super is a right, not a perk.
Graduate, Perth - 17 Jul 2024
None.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
Novated car leasing and super contributions via salary sacrifice (no salary sacrifice for HECS, mortgage etc). Employee Assistance Program for staff and their families.
Acting APS6 (Substantive APS5), Adelaide - 08 Jul 2024
Leave policies, respect for life commitments, allowing for very flexible working arrangements, etc - I'd tell anyone Services Australia is the place to work if you want work-life balance
Graduate, Canberra - 08 Jul 2024
Salary sacrificing for superannuation is good; I just wish government allowed to salary sacrifice rent/mortgage payments. Leave policies are very generous and the employee assistance program (and other discounts on memberships for things like gyms) is a good resource to have available.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
Leave and other benefits are probably the best perks. As well as flexible working hours.
APS5, Sydney - 05 Jul 2024
As part of the graduate program, they paid for me to move from Tasmania to Canberra where the position was. I would have really struggled to cover the relocation fees myself.
Completed Graduate Degree, Canberra - 04 Jul 2024
Leave policies. Reimbursements for eye wear single and multI focal. Paid leave for flu vaccinations. When I relocated to Brisbane I received relocation allowances, if I had to move interstate there was financial help with plane tickets, moving household items and cars. Travel allowances.
Grad and experienced service officer, Toowoomba - 02 Jul 2024
Government is not necessarily notorious for perks... however, we do receive really great super (over 15%) and have good leave and flexible work policies. There is also excellent job security.
Graduate, Ballarat - 02 Jul 2024
There are holidays, sick days, maternity leave and annual leave.
Graduate, Canberra - 28 Jun 2024
