Field Engineer at SLB

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Petroleum) at Curtin University

Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised to discover your potential.

What’s your background?

I completed my degree in petroleum engineering in 2019 and decided to join SLB as a field engineer as the role offered travel opportunities and career progression. My expectations were quickly met! Within three years, I had worked in two different locations and attended training in another.

What are your highlights from your time at SLB so far?

My highlights from my career travels are working offshore in Africa and taking courses at SLB’s learning center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, learn about different cultures, and most importantly, gain expertise in my career as a field engineer for SLB. Team members are approachable thanks to the culture of inclusivity and diversity in SLB. Support is readily available, so I’ve never been afraid to ask questions It’s a fantastic experience working here.

How have you found working in the field?

It’s both challenging and rewarding. Understanding and experiencing field work is vital to my career progression and will equip me with the necessary skills to pursue any career path at SLB. No day is the same when working in the field. I face different challenges every day, ranging from tools and equipment to working in extreme weather conditions.

Although some days are more challenging than others, I found it has strengthened my character and confidence, knowing I can handle the pressures of the role.

I did not always find it easy to adapt to different situations, but I surprised myself with what I have been able to achieve at SLB. So, I encourage anyone that is an introvert to pursue a field career – do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised to discover your potential!
