My role is an Intern - Statistical and Data Analyst. I am gathering data and information about Māori businesses by reading through the TUM releases and other reports like Te Matapaeroa and Te Ohanga Māori. I attend meetings that my team have and make contributions through there and I also seek the feedback and help of my colleagues. I also attend events that are organised for the interns here at Stats which is insightful in knowing what other avenues there are at Stats NZ.

Being in the Business Performance team means I am involved with surveys and releases that are focused around the New Zealand economy and New Zealand businesses. The area I focus the most on is Tatau Ranga Umanga M?ori - which looks at M?ori businesses and their activity and contribution to the New Zealand economy. as well as working a bit on the Business Operations Survey. Soon I will be expanding my work and looking into some Overseas Trade data.

Intern, Wellington - 24 Feb 2020
There is a fair mix of technical and soft skills. The technical side requires me to maintain, monitor and tune a big data platform whilst ensuring that it is usable and secure. This technical work is complemented by interactions with business users. I need to understand requirements and translate between their needs and technical capability.
