  • Access to our Tech Academy program which is designed to continue your personal and professional learning.
  • Under our Tech Academy hear from guest speaker events about the latest tech trends, participate in hackathons,  and be given access to over 6,000 on-demand training courses from Project Management, Data Science through to Yoga or meditation!
  • Work with a raft of platform architects, tech engineers, analysts and tech strategists that work cohesively to develop, implement, and maintain systems that build business value and drive performance
  • TAL Graduates complete a 1-week study tour to our Dai-ichi Life head office in the second year of the Graduate Program.

What you will do:

As a Cyber Security Graduate you will play a vital role in protecting TAL’s digital assets, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, and safeguarding our customers' data.

You will gain exposure to various areas within cybersecurity and work on a range of tasks, including:

  • Collaborating with development teams to design, develop, and test software applications.
  • Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of security controls.
  • Participate in Hackathons focused on improving the experience of TAL customers, partners and people
  • Supporting network, server, and storage operations.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Contributing to a culture of collaboration and open communication.

Who we are looking for:

  • A strong academic track record (distinction average or above) in a Technology/Cyber related discipline; Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Science and/or Data Analytics.
  • You will be IT curious with a high passion for technology and be a logical problem solver with critical thinking skills.
  • Curious and passionate about technology and ongoing learning
  • Have an open mind and be willing to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks in a high paced working environment; and
  • Work both independently and deliver as a member of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-rounded background with experience across community and / or extra-curricular activities.
  • Interest in roles that not only embraces analytical skills but is also customer focused.
  • Leadership qualities developed through high school, university, work experience and / or extracurricular activities.
  • Initiative and drive, together with the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.

Who Can Apply:

  • Completion of an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in the last 2 years or by the end of 2024
  • The program starts in February 2025 by which time you must be an Australian citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia or hold a 485 Sub-Class Visa, and willing to undergo background checks as required.

The day-to-day responsibilities vary in each rotation. From my experience, most of the week is spent working on a project that the team has prioritised, while also spending some time on a task on another project. I also try to find at least a few hours each week to prioritise my professional development as a way to upskill.

Pros and cons of working at TAL Australia

Pros

  • The culture in the company is good. Everyone is nice and willing to help each other.

  • Very flexible. 9-5 working hours expected in general.

  • The people at TAL are always supportive and ready to give great opportunities to Graduates.

  • The opportunity to work across multiple business functions.

  • Great facilities, modern and clean - free coffee, fruit and other snacks provided. Free Gym.

Cons

    • Getting access to required software and the processes for requesting them can feel daunting as they can take an extremely long time.

    • Because the culture at TAL is great, often there is less movement here...more competition for internal promotions.

    • The lack of experience and context around regulatory frameworks, terminology, and technical knowledge is an ongoing challenge and maybe difficult to gauge what is going on without understanding everything.

    • Our company moved from 2 days in, 3 days remote setup to a 3 "team days" in a mandated system with 2 days remote”

    • Strict Cyber Regulations/Policies
