We are looking for top talent and inquisitive minds, those who are looking for an exceptional, open environment to help them succeed. We have internships available in the following areas:

  • Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical, Transport, Water Resources, Project Delivery)
  • Science (Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology)
  • Digital (Data + Analytics, GIS, Software Development)
  • Planning (Resource Management and Environmental)
  • Digital Engineering (CAD, Civil Design)
  • Group Services (Marketing, People + Capability, Technology, Finance)
  • Strategic Consulting (taking applicants from Engineering and Science backgrounds with a strong interest in sustainability or resource recovery)

 We also look for:

  • Graduation expected from late 2024 to late 2025
  • GPA: 5+
  • Right to work in NZ (NZ Permanent Residents or Citizens)
  • Some extra-curricular activities (e.g. work, volunteering, sports etc.)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent eye for detail
  • Ability to make sound decisions
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined
  • Proactive and enthusiastic

My day-to-day responsibilities include quality assurance for different construction projects. A few different responsibilities include sizing ponds, assessing landfills, and infrastructure assessments.

Pros and cons of working at Tonkin + Taylor

Pros

  • Everyone is very friendly and supportive. Great team and team leader. Very interesting and varied work.

  • There is no competition within the company, everyone tries to lift each other and provide help whenever possible.

  • Culture of the workplace, and the opportunity to work on a range of projects with many different people.

  • The support from my colleagues. The opportunity to get involved in interesting projects. The work-life balance.

  • The flexibility of working times and locations, and the people. I enjoy the freedom of choosing when I can work from home and the hours I do. It helps me balance my personal life and work schedule.

Cons

    • Lack of intermediate staff who you can go ask for help without worrying about how busy they are.

    • Everyone is very busy, it can be difficult to find time for non-project related work such as training, career development, discussions etc.

    • The variable workload

    • High stress when projects are due

    • Sometimes, project commitments conflicts and all of a sudden there is a big workload. I also get stressed when some projects have a tight deadline and budget and I have to really push myself to try to deliver within budget.
