Most training were on the job training. There was a field and rock logging course that was a formal training which I found really useful before I went to site and actually do logging.
Skills I have picked up:
* Soil logging
* Report writing
* Managing my own workload and forecasting future workloads to help with me deciding what projects to take on
* Leapfrog modelling

Lots of experts in the field who we can start off with assisting in their projects. Very helpful and lots to learn from them. Graduate training programs feel that some of them can be completed online.
Graduate, Tauranga - 03 Oct 2023
Many of the formal online trainings have been rather dry and boring, however, I do still feel they're necessary for new starters. The specific in person courses have been good.
The on the job training mostly involved going out to site with an experienced person and going through the process. I found I was trusted to take charge of the work independently very quickly, which was nice.

Formal training: sessions on best practices, and on the job learning getting feedback from senior co-worker.
Graduate, Christchurch - 03 Oct 2023
Have had multiple formal trainings with the grad cohort, these are ok, sometimes can be boring but I have learnt some report writing skills from one of them. On the job training is good, a lot of seniors are willing to help and train.

There is a website which is used to advertise upcoming internal training, and it is encouraged to sign up to what we're interested in. There's a certain fund set aside to Professional Development so if we want to go to external events, too. Most weeks there are mini-lectures over lunch. I've personally learned a lot about geotechnical engineering as someone with no prior knowledge. I've also picked up a lot of software skills informally.
