We have a fantastic opportunity for three Tutorial Assistants to join our School of Trades and Services. You'll spend time in the classroom with Academic staff and students, but most of our learning is done through practical, hands-on experience. Most of your time will be on building sites, or in our well-equipped workshops within our purpose-built trades building. Our pre-trade students build new houses on-campus, which are sold to the public once completed. Our students who are already in the trade, or ready to start their apprenticeship, can undertake the necessary level 4 carpentry training with us, and work towards their qualification and industry registration.

You'll be involved with house construction, site management and building compliance. Some of your key duties will include:

Under the direction of the Lecturer, ensure:

  • The supervision of practical activities
  • Preparations to ensure the timely completion of the house build
  • Management of building site
  • Timely procurement of materials
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of a coherent portfolio of industry-relevant courses
  • Participating in quality and compliance activities
  • Ensuring learners are familiar and compliant with all Health and Safety requirements as provided for in NZ legislation
  • To be successful in this role you will need a genuine passion for student success. You'll be someone who is naturally engaging and approachable and who enjoys collaborating with others.

It is essential for you to have a minimum level 2 of NCEA or equivalent qualification and a minimum of 2 years of industry experience preferably in residential building. Please refer to the position description for further information. This is a fixed-term full-time position ending on 10 December 2021.

This is a hugely satisfying role, where you have the chance to give back to tomorrow's generation.

Apply today! The closing date is 12 March at midday.

Please note: we do not always work to fixed closing dates and may start considering applications as they are received so we encourage you to apply early. We will aim to contact all applicants within 1 week of the job closing date.
