Internship Program - Archaeology Assistant (Feb 2025)

Your role

As an Archaeology intern at Urbis, you won't be a passive observer – you'll actively contribute to complex and meaningful projects that shape the urban landscape. Working with the accomplished team at Urbis, you'll gain invaluable insights and make a tangible impact on real-world initiatives. The student roles provide the flexibility of working 2 - 4 days per week, allowing you to seamlessly integrate your internship with your studies.

The Archaeology team at Urbis is a group of dedicated professionals who work to uncover, preserve, and interpret Australia's rich archaeological heritage. They provide a range of services including archaeological assessments, excavation, heritage interpretation, and impact assessments. Their work spans various types of archaeological sites, from prehistoric locations to historic urban landscapes. With a deep understanding of archaeological methods and heritage legislation, the team provides strategic advice to clients, helping them navigate the complexities of archaeological conservation while ensuring sustainable development

As an intern in the Archaeology team, you will:

• Play an integral role in the compilation of detailed and insightful research and analysis, contributing to a variety of captivating archaeology reports and tasks, including:
  • Aboriginal archaeological assessments and using the Aboriginal Heritage Information Management System (AHIMS) under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974
  • Historical archaeological assessments and forms under the Heritage Act 1977, such as s60 forms, s140/144, s146, and Exemption notifications
• Work closely with senior staff in drafting reports, benefiting from their guidance and expertise while honing your skills in presenting complex information in a compelling manner
• Provide dedicated support to the Heritage team, actively assisting in meeting client requirements and delivering exceptional service
• Participate in archaeological excavations, deepening your understanding of archaeology and gaining hands-on experience in the field

The year-long Student Internship Program, running from February to December 2025, will enable you to graduate with the distinct advantage of industry experience over your peers

About you

This program will be suitable for those who will be undertaking tertiary studies in a relevant field in 2025, and have a combination of the following competencies and qualifications:

• Passionate, hardworking and a great fit for our spirited, collaborative culture at Urbis
• Can communicate with confidence and in a responsive manner, both written and verbally
• Proven skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Please Note: you must have valid working rights in Australia and be studying throughout the internship to be eligible for the program.
