I work in Scada & Telecommunication team in Asset Performance function. As part of my job, I look into existing grid automation assets, and I am working in a data migration project.

Pros and cons of working at Western Power

Pros

  • The people are really nice and very supportive if you show you're interested in learning.

  • The time flexibility and the work life balance.

  • Plenty of learning opportunities. We get to learn the business through various internal & external trainings.

  • The team/people are very inclusive and helpful.

  • Western Power provides flexible working hours arrangements, subject to approval from formal team leaders.

Cons

    • The lack of communication between different departments could be much better.

    • Sometimes the processes they use are a bit outdated and I think they sometimes need to be reviewed.

    • Not enough information provided regarding the structure of the program or what is expected prior to starting.

    • We might not be able to get the rotations in our areas of interest always.

    • Learning opportunity via good project, lack of technical mentorship and slow pace of work are the worst things for me.
