Application Process & Interviews at Xero Australia

Very reasonable amount of technical and non-technical knowledge was required, wouldn't make people feel like they are trying to make them unreasonably hard just to get the smartest ones out of the pool. The interviews are really more about seeing how well we can learn, how well we know about ourselves when it comes to dealing with different situations, what we are like as a person, which are collectively more important than simply the level of technical expertise we have by itself.

The interview process was pretty slow and it took quite a while to hear back from them but I did hear back from people so it was okay. The assessments felt reasonable: coding challenge, then video interview, then a grad day (1-on-1 interviews and a technical presentation).

The interview process is quite long, there is a Grad Day that requires a lot of time commitment and many stages.

Interview process was four stages (I think). Not as complex as some other companies. Time between third and fourth took a while (over a month). - S1: Application - S2: Tech Assessment - S3: Video interviews - S4: Grad Day Final Assessment (Presentation & Behavioural Interviews) Overall very relaxed interviews which I appreciated.

Interview process was much more straightforward than any other company I applied for. Initial stages had normal cognitive/practical/behavioural assessments but the feedback for them came very quickly. In later stages Xero actually invited candidates to the offices to meet an assigned graduate ambassador to ask about the experience before the final assessments. The final assessments were done individually within a small cohort, and feedback for them came extremely quickly - I remember receiving an offer within two weeks of the final assessment. The whole experience was handled very well, and it felt like Xero's recruitment process was by far the most respectful of the candidates' time.

It was really interesting and enjoyable. The HR was very approachable. The assessments were well designed.

Everything was really well laid out, I always knew which stage of the recruitment process I was in, and I knew how many steps there were left.

One of the employee was really kind and I can confidently say I wouldn't have accepted this role if it weren't for her support and encouragement.

I came in as a grad but they were flexible and they always made me feel comfortable.

Presentation to other interviewees and interviewers (you have about 10 minutes to research something and then put on a presentation)

Can't remember exactly what they are. Only remember they were mostly standard questions and if not, the questions would require some really genuine answers which would prompts people to really refer back to their experiences and think through, which are fun and thoughts provoking at times. The technical questions weren't exactly tricky, they weren't just absolutely random either, they were usually based on the previous conversations I have had with the interviewers, which made them less threatening.

Some were about conflict resolution, what skills you have/want to work on, your values, how you take on feedback, and how you prioritise work etc.

Can't really remember. I think I got asked about a time when I have encountered a challenge or conflict and how I managed this. I also got ask about which value do I identify most with.

Be yourself, and try not to memorise too much to try and be prepared for all the possible question, It's more important we answer all the questions as genuine as possible and showcase your true personality and charisma. Focus on how your past experiences prepare you for the position you are applying for by first research into the company and the position, then match the company's expectations of you with your specialties and skillsets.

Once you get past the hurdle of the coding, it all comes down to how you present yourself. Present your best self.

Do a lot of leetcode, remember answers for common behavorial questions

Xero hires based on your personality and potential ability to learn. It's not about being a know-it-all. We're looking for real people, with real emotion, who really want to understand small businesses.

Behavioural skills seemed to be really important in the recruitment process, so definitely don't neglect it in favour of coding interview practise.

Understand the company values and reflect on how these align (or don't) with your own values and the work that you want to do.

Just be calm and be yourself

Be yourself in the interview, with a little bit more confidence and eagerness. Support people during the presentations.
