Culture at Xero New Zealand

9.0
9.0 rating for Culture, based on 28 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
The people are great and it doesn't feel like there's a hierarchy as everyone is treated with respect. As mentioned early I feel like the company is reducing the socialising opportunities which is a shame as I believe they're important for a good company culture.

Really great culture in Xero, never met anyone who thinks they are above me or anyone else. Lots of socials, even after hours sporting events which I like.

In the office people are super friendly and care about our lives outside of work. Within the team we all pitch in to help out where needed. Structure and hierachy of reporting is somewhat unclear making organisation of effort difficult.

There is a heavy emphasis on teamwork and although there is a hierarchy in teams based on the job title, it doesn't feel like that and everyone is encouraged to voice their opinion and try new things. After hours there is a social club to join or organising activities within colleagues is common.

The company skews young, which is great for graduates. But is also family friendly, with movies being hosted over the school holidays, and game consoles and toys for kids. There is a cool social club, and most teams seem to be very tight, and genuinely enjoy hanging out with each other. The office hosts fortnightly socials, which is a mix between after-work drinks and breakfasts for people who can't stay late.

Culture is good, it is relaxing and mental wellbeing is important. It is great to know if I need time off I can have it. It seems like everyone can be themselves and joke with each other. Everyone is sociable, friendly, approachable.

Culture is amazing, with the company having a very real understanding of the importance of taking a break.

I have had a good experience so far, other grads and people senior to me treat me with respect. Lots of good opportunities to socialise which is nice. Co-workers make an effort to include others.

There is no strict hierarchy, everyone is respected and included in conversation when relevant. Hierarchy only really exists in terms of responsibility and to safeguard information. Teams are grouped into larger teams that have a shared area of work, but each sub-team tends to be a relatively small group of people that have their own thing they are responsible for. Questions are welcomed and ideas to improve styles of work are encouraged.

Socialising is welcomed at Xero and the working culture is good, doesn't feel like theres a big hierarchy.

Colleagues and socialising are really good. A lot of good cooperation and teamwork. I wish there would be more clarity around expectations though, corporate speak makes it hard to understand sometimes.

Everyone feels like an equal, no matter how senior your role. This means it is really easy to talk to anyone when you have questions and feel supported by others. Outside of the office, our grad cohort has become really close friends which makes the workplace more enjoyable as you love seeing these people everyday.

Everyone is very welcoming and healthy work life balance is a priority

Overall, I think the company culture is excellent as everyone has a deep appreciation for maintaining a healthy work life balance and we get a lot of benefits to assist us with our work. In my experience, Xeros have always been friendly and easy to work with. With the company reset a few months ago, the culture was understandably negatively impacted due to colleagues being made redundant, team restructures, and the overall stress and anxiety that comes with a reset of this size. From a grad perspective, I feel like emotions and mindsets are now less negative and things are getting back to "normal" but obviously take this with a grain of salt as I've only been with the company for a short time and don't really know how the culture used to be prior to the reset.

Everyone is very friendly and treats each other like equals regardless of role seniority. It is very common for teams to take time both during and outside of work hours to socialize.
Graduate, Wellington - 11 Oct 2023
The culture is very kind and accepting in and outside of the office. Everyone is welcome and people say hi in the elevators. It really does feel like no one is above working with someone else - even if they are multiple levels above them in the hierarchy, and the office spaces are built to be collaborative.

Team culture is really good. We have clubs that anyone can join (such as football) and amongst teams there are drinks and socialising outside of work (at a respectful level). Like any company there is a hierarchy but that is transparent.
