Job Satisfaction at Xero New Zealand

I am a grad so I'm continuously learning new skills which is awesome and i've really enjoyed the challenge so far. I work alongside my team everyday to try and accomplish the goals we have.

I am mostly here to spend my graduate year learning about Xero's processes and tools so that I can perform efficiently in the future.

Conduct research studies: interviews, create screeners, write interview guides, generate findings to inform design decisions. Support senior researchers in complex studies.

Day-to-day I take part in meetings related to Agile or work on code for the sprint ahead

Interesting work using new technologies. There is space to experiment and grow. Every two weeks we get a full day to just learn or work on our personal projects, to ensure that we are continuing to upskill.

My role is to learn which I get plenty of opportunities for.

I get exposed to a great range of exciting work, I like when I am busy.

As a graduate engineer, I get to rotate between a few teams every 3-4 months. My responsibilities range from participating in team meetings, working on whatever sprint work is currently available, and attending training sessions. There's a wide range of things to do during a sprint, sometimes it's research (or spikes) to understand the work or environment better, other times it's coding or scripting, and/or writing documentation for code, processes, or anything else that comes up in spikes.

I work alongside my team to complete the teams current goal, including jira tickets and taking part in team activities such as meetings etc.

Grab coffee, chat with people in the team, standup, meetings, start working on tickets (front-end engineering), take a break with team members, play pool, get back to work, study some cloud stuff

I feel like my role really aligns with what I studied at university and I am putting all my skills to use. I have also been pushed in my work to try things out of my comfort zone and have been given more responsibilities than I expected as a grad which has been a great experience.

Always able to provide customer value by implementing business needs

My day-to-day responsibilities involve coding with new technologies, languages, and concepts I haven't been exposed to much. This provides awesome challenges to help me grow my skills as an engineer.

BAU type of work, developing components for new features, maintaining existing code bases and lot of testing.

My day to day responsibilities are conducted in the insights and analytics area, so I work with our product data to make sense of stakeholder requests, publish adhoc reports, create data models, and build self service dashboards. I also spend time on developing my soft skills by working with my people lead, and doing some self directed learning.
