I think the managers at Xero are good and I have had good experiences with all of mine.

Very great, my manager is the best manager I have ever had
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Somewhat accessible. The best mentors are the senior researchers rather than the managers as they are closer to the research. Approach to feedback varies, some is in the moment and others save it until review time.

The managers for graduates are amazing and care about helping with career progression and give great advice so that we can succeed. We have fortnightly meetings on progress and how to achieve or goals and tackle our weaknesses and also an opportunity to give and take on feedback.

They are super accessible, wonderful people who genuinely care about us. They are great mentors who give great feedback. I only have superlative things to say about my managers. I feel very grateful for the support I have been given, and the ways they have listen to and accommodated me.

Managers make themselves known and are very open to catching up. They make it clear they are open to talking about things and make regular catch ups.

Great managers, open communication and attentive.

My managers make themselves available for regular catch-ups and to answer any questions I have whenever. Feedback is given regularly and it includes praise and recognition. Positive feedback is still feedback!

My team leads so far have been really good and Jasper has been super helpful. Good amounts of recognition and feedback.

I think my manager does a great job of looking after me. While he doesn't know a lot about the day-to-day of my job he is a great support for the more adminy things.

The managers within each of my rotation teams have been fantastic, no issues at all. The managers within the grad program I've found are sometimes not easily accessible or consistent with their communications. For example, I know of many grads who have had their catch-ups regularly rescheduled to the point that they don't have a 1-1 with their manager for 3-4 weeks.
Internal communications is also patchy - when announcing the end of year rotation process, we were simply given slides to read and then given a deadline to submit questions about it (for me, it was a very brief deadline and a bit of a surprise since it didn't feel like we even had a conversation about the end of year process since all we got was a slack message).
Performance feedback, praise, and recognition were all great.

I have recently got a new grad manager as my old one was being overworked (coping with the responsibilities of being a grad manager and running the program) and the grads under them and themselves were struggling to have our needs met. Thankfully this has been rectified and we all have new managers. My new manager is a great mentor, they really care about my personal development and always celebrate my little wins. The teams that I have rotated around have had good team managers/grad buddies too. I really do feel like they care about my career growth. We have feedback sessions with my grad manager to share what is working and what needs to be improved so I always have clarity on how I am doing. The area that I work also has great recognition channels so I get area wide appreciation and I can give recognition to those that help me.

Managers are great and always approachable. In terms of mentoring, it's more just looking after us than anything else. Only have either weekly or monthly meetings to essentially catch up.
