What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
The pay is great for a grad role but seems average for a grad role in software engineering. A lot of my uni friends are paid significantly more and also the Aussy grads receiving close to 30k more seems unfair.

Pay is pretty good, just a bit demotivating compared to other countries getting more for the exact same role.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Aug 2024
Its a good pay for the market right now but compared to this role in other regions (even within the company) it is vastly lower.
Associate, Wellington - 26 Jul 2024
There currently isn't any bonuses but is being introduced soon. I think that we get paid an average rate in NZ but considering how big Xero is as a company and in comparison especially to other Australian tech companies, the pay probably isn't as competitive and could be more competitive to keep junior talent.
Graduate, Auckland - 01 Jul 2024
It appears to be market rate, although I know our colleagues over the ditch are getting a far more lucrative deal.
Graduate, Auckland - 01 Jul 2024
Pay is ok, but it seems like there is a huge discrepancy between grads in different regions. There is also a big pay rise for new graduates compared to current ones each year, and there can be trouble with pay rises not reflecting that.
Graduate, Wellington - 27 Jun 2024
Average when compared to other NZ firms, but could be better when compared to other international SAAS companies.
Graduate, Auckland - 27 Jun 2024
Overall satisfied, I am mainly focused on learning. Getting paid differently based on country for doing the same role can be annoying, especially with comparable living costs.
Graduate, Wellington - 26 Jun 2024
I think the difference between my pay and the amount the Aussy grads get paid is pretty ridiculous. The pay is good for straight out of university but many of my other computer science mates are earning more than me for similar positions. I think its good pay but comparatively it's not great.
Graduate, Wellington - 26 Jun 2024
I am happy with my pay.
Graduate, Wellington - 26 Jun 2024
We lag well behind the industry average for the same role, and there is quite a difference between the pay in different regions. In particular engineers in Australia get paid a quite a lot more for the same role.
Graduate, Wellington - 12 Oct 2023
I could be being paid better but for the grad rotation program it's more than I expected
Graduate, Auckland - 12 Oct 2023
Pay is good starting but as you progress it's starts to go towards the lower band, compared to the market. We don't get bonuses, rather share allocation.
Graduate, Wellington - 11 Oct 2023
I am at the lower range of my jobs salary range but I am not completely under valued. In lieu of monetary bonuses, we get an extra 40 hours of leave and shares in the company. I'm unsure whether or not I will qualify for monetary bonuses out of the grad program.

The company has wellbeing leave which you can take whenever e.g. sickness, mental health day and you don't get questioned, they understand that wellbeing is important. There are other perks such as discounts to a range of different stores and also there's budget for team lunches and celebrations. Xero also offers private heath insurance as well as EAP services for every employee.
Graduate, Auckland - 01 Jul 2024
Free health insurance, generous leave - we get the regular 4 weeks, and then two extra weeks free, as well as free leave between Christmas and New Year's. We also have "Wellbeing Leave" instead of sick leave so we can take that off if we just need a mental health day. There is a free soda machine in the office, and always tons of free food. There is a good employee discount scheme with a bunch of different retailers, including supermarkets.
Graduate, Auckland - 01 Jul 2024

One free Xero subscription! I'm still trying to convince some family and friends to use the subscription to make their accounting easier.

If you choose to work in-office (Xero is very flexible with working from home as well) there is often free food provided to the employees (with common dietary restrictions accounted for as well). Xero is also quite generous with leave and provides health insurance as well.
Graduate, Wellington - 11 Oct 2023
We have generous leave policies, health insurance, a perks app which has food and experiences deals (I got two tickets on the Christchurch gondola for the price of one!), and some random deals around Wellington (subway and pubs etc).
