The knowledge and skills you gain are not just from school, learning is a lifelong process and you must have a lust for learning, and most importantly, be able to persist.
The code that the storage engines team manages has cutting-edge algorithms. We have a few select people who read research papers to make sure that we are always the most efficient. I found that so cool!
From what I learned as a young professional is that all the technical skills can be learned and as long as you have the character to move forward, any job is for you to conquer!
The coolest thing about my role is that level of involvement I’m given as an intern, sitting in on planning meetings at the highest level, being asked to contribute and having my opinion heard is extremely exciting and sometimes scary.
