What Summer Internship positions are available? 

Air New Zealand offer positions in different areas of the digital team:

  • Application & Software Development - The team provides software engineering, Quality Assurance Engineering, and Systems Analysis services and aims to deliver software solutions better, faster and cheaper.
  • Cyber Security - The team protects our customers, employees, partners, and brand from cybersecurity threats, enabling the business to execute our strategy with confidence. Our purpose is to "Keep you safe and secure - in the clouds and on the ground."
  • Data & Analytics - The team enables faster, easier access to enterprise data and fit-for-purpose analytics tools. Through data engineering and analytics, we enable improved decision-making and automated processes.

Recruitment Process

Our hiring process

We believe that bringing together diversity of thought, ideas and perspectives is key to building great teams. So, our hiring process is designed to get to know you and the magic you could bring to help us provide the best flying experience in the world. We also want you to get to know us, so you feel confident you are making the right decision. 

Step 1: Application
Send in your CV and a covering letter telling us why you want to work at Air New Zealand. 

Step 2: Video Introduction
You will be invited to complete a self-recorded interview from the comfort of your own home. This is your chance to answer questions about your goals, aspirations, skills and personal values. Don't worry - you will have plenty of time to prepare for each question and we are looking for you to show us your personality! 

Step 3: Intern Day
This epic day based at the Air New Zealand Hub in Auckland is your chance to network with Air New Zealanders and other interns. You will hear from our senior leaders before having kōrero with our teams about your experience, achievements and capabilities. You will also have the opportunity to ask us any questions about the mahi you could be doing and the impact you'll be able to have.

Step 4: Job Offer - After the pre-employment checks, you will receive an offer for a fixed term contract position as part of the Air New Zealand whānau.

About you

What you will bring to the role: 

  • You might be in the middle of studying a relevant tertiary qualification in Information/Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology or maybe you’re not on a traditional academic path but have impressive digital skills.
  • Passion about technology and emerging trends that have the potential to change the way we work, live, and communicate.
  • Drive and curiosity that is being explored through project work outside of academic studies. Are you currently creating a website, interacting on GitHub or Kaggle, and looking to solve big problems with data? We want to learn more about you!
  • Thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment and enjoy working on ambiguous and fuzzy problems. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resilience.

  • Relatively flexible about when you get your hours in; some people start early and leave early, others stay late.
  • The projects we work on can be significantly affected by broader business decisions.
  • The location can be a bit difficult to get to with a lack of parking (for CBD office).
  • There are lots of layers to ways of working and lots of acronyms and specific terminology to learn.
