Want to bring ideas to life?

This is a very exciting time for you - full of endless possibilities. It is important to choose a company whose purpose aligns with your own, a place where you can build your skills, collaborate with industry experts and leaders, work with role models who support you in delivering real projects, and explore various career pathways. Aurecon’s paid Summer Internship Program has all that covered and more.

Choosing a career path as an undergraduate can be challenging. While you may have an interest in a particular area, you sometimes don’t know which path to follow until you’ve had some practical work experience. In our paid internship programme, you will be placed in a technical field of your choice (where possible) for approximately three months to gain experience in that field and help you decide if it is right for you.

Aurecon’s internship programme coincides with the university summer break. At the end of the experience, we give our internship students structured feedback on their performance to assist in their professional development.

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

As one of our new QLD-based Software Development interns, working within the Computational Design Team, you’ll be a vital part of Aurecon’s unconventional thinkers and dedicated doers who feel deeply passionate about co-creating solutions for automation, innovation, and digital enablement.

You will be working within a small development team, rapidly iterating over solutions and engaging directly with the stakeholders within a full stack environment, primarily focused on Automation within the AEC industry. You should be familiar with Git, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSharp (or any C-family language, or a language similar to CSharp like Java), and SQL Databases.

You will also be working within heavily Geometry and Mathematically inspired environments using systems like Custom Geometry Engines, ThreeJS, Rhino/Grasshopper, Autodesk products, and Speckle (knowledge of these systems at this stage is not required).

Our team works across the following business units:

  • Computational Design – Parametric Design, Algorithmic Design, Data-Driven Design, computational geometry, Optioneering, Optimisation, Automation, Evolutionary Solving, Graph Theory, physics simulation
  • Software Development – Programming, web development, interaction and experience design
  • Digital Modelling – Complex geometries, interoperability
  • Sustainability – carbon impact modelling, environmental and energy modelling

Aurecon have been very supportive when it comes to allowing me to work during my semesters at uni, however it is hard to understand what is going on sometimes as I experience major time jumps with projects due to my hours. I am mostly given admin tasks at the moment but context is given with most of it so it helps me to feel like I am helping the broader picture.

Pros and cons of working at Aurecon Australia

Pros

  • I have a lot of flexibility and we work on tier one projects.

  • The best thing about my job is the flexibility it offers. I really appreciate the option to work hybrid.

  • Everyone is extremely supportive and helpful. Yet to meet a person that wouldn't assist me.

  • My team has a beautiful diversity - including leadership. I think I am having exceptionally high proportion of projects I really enjoy.

  • Opportunities to work on a broad range of projects, both locally and interstate/internationally.

Cons

    • Lack of work especially for grads. Unrealistic utilization expectations.

    • Unstable workflow at times, very demanding hours during peak periods.

    • Graduate training seems to be highly reliant on the quality of your projects/team leaders.

    • Expectation to work unpaid overtime.

    • The promotion decisions were not made in a transparent manner, and there seems no clear requirement for each level.
