Formal training includes - Training modules during the morning and in person training the rest of the day. Very informative and structured to teach certain aspects one at a time
Graduate, Auckland - 25 Jul 2024
The job has regular trainings, we had 4 weeks of training at the start of the job and then one day each month. There are also extra learning resources and constant help from managers, seniors and partners on the jobs

I have been assigned in different teams where I could learn specific knowledge and skills

They have launchpad which has changed abit this year due to moving onto Xero accounts. So we start with GSTS and then will slowly work our way up to doing annual accounts
Graduate, New Plymouth - 24 Jul 2024
Is structured and well paced, but some extra areas could be made into more formalised trainings
Graduate, Christchurch - 17 Jul 2024
The training goes through many days, which involves different people explaining how to do specific Jobs.

Solid training at the start where we were run through practice or mock jobs with buddy. Once we went back to our team we had a one-on-one buddy who went through our first few jobs together
Graduate, Christchurch - 15 Jul 2024
When we first started we went through heaps of training and we also do a weekly training session now to help us learn as we work

Formal training was especially great. I have definitely improved on my problem solving skills.

The training I have had for graduates has been okay but a lot of it has not been applicable yet and will be useful later on (e.g. maybe in second year) but is useful for some background understanding. Would have been nice to have some more structured training around workpapers we are responsible for on most of our jobs, and how they can vary between client in different industries etc. Some of the training also does not cover parts of what is needed so some people assume that since we have had the training we have been showed how to do certain things we have not learnt, which causes some confusion. Maybe going through an uncompleted workpaper and finishing it would help compared to talking though a completed one. The people holding the training have been very good though. The learning on the go has been very good though and easy to ask questions.

very helpful, but sometimes hard to remember what to do when I'm back at my desk. Buddy is very good

There was a large variety of training provided, this covered the basics involved in the day to day of the job. training is still ongoing weekly to cover off more areas and improve understanding along the way of being exposed to more when undertaking jobs. A buddy system also helps a lot with informal learning.

The formal training process I felt has lacked a bit. As there are areas of an audit that we were never trained or shown how to complete or walked through before hand. So it felt very daunting. However, on the job training was good depending on the people you work with as they can help walk you through on how to complete a workpaper and what information you might need. On the job training is somewhat more beneficial as you pick up things quicker and it helps for you to retain any information.

I love those trainings, especially the three days training in the nice hotel!
Graduate, Auckland - 04 Nov 2023
For my department there was no formal training process although there are plenty of videos internally, we can view
Graduate, Auckland - 02 Nov 2023
The training is excellent, I feel as though it can be a little behind in the schedule of what specific sections we are completing which is not helpful
Graduate, Auckland - 01 Nov 2023
I feel like I learn the most from making mistakes. We have regular trainings at a high level so can be hard for someone to understand at a junior level.
Graduate, Auckland - 27 Oct 2023
The training programs at BDO are good as a member of the tax team. We have regular tax training sessions and tax updates which helps keep us upskilled. Because my team also does BAS work this means I get to be involved with BAS trainings also which means I get exposure to both tax and BAS trainings which is good for my development.

The general training that was given to all graduates was good as it focused on team-building and company values. There did not seem to be much in the way of formal training for corporate finance which did make it a bit more difficult when completing tasks and knowing where to start on different engagements.
