I would receive a bug report, maybe work with a tester on how I can recreate the issue in the web application. Then research the underlying code. Try many different things as part of solving the issue, send them to code review, and then commit the changes for testing. This is a lot of work in JavaScript on the front-end, with Kendo UI for jQuery. Also in the Oracle database, using PL/SQL. In-between is C# ASP.NET 4.5, but I do not often work in there yet.

Pros and cons of working at DXC Technology New Zealand

Pros

  • The best thing about working at DXC is the collaboration, care, and learning aspect. I feel like there is a lot of collaboration and support, and you know where you stand in the delivery process. The team makes you feel important by giving you tasks performed by regular professionals compared to an 'easy, specialized task for a "graduate". It is also very social, to the point where you get along with people 50 years older and a few years younger, very diverse.

  • There is a good culture, and the encouragement to progress in your early career is something that I think is great for a graduate program.

  • The overall friendliness and support from the workplace and colleagues in every work situation.

  • Flat structure, friendliness and opportunity to move/experience different parts of the business

  • I can put the best things about working at DXC down into 4 categories. Work Environment: From day one, I felt welcomed and valued as part of the team. The DXC workplace holds a positive and inclusive environment. The management team and colleagues create a friendly and supportive atmosphere that promotes collaboration and teamwork. The open communication channels and approachability of the senior leadership team make it a great place to work. Opportunities for Growth: DXC has a strong emphasis on personal and professional development. DXC invests in its employees by offering regular training sessions, mentorship programs, and opportunities for skill enhancement. This dedication to growth has allowed me to take on new challenges, expand my skill set, and continually advance in my career. Work-Life Balance: The ๏ฌ‚exible work hours and remote work options have enabled me to manage my responsibilities e๏ฌƒciently while also dedicating time to my personal life and well-being. Team Collaboration: I have had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented and dedicated individuals who have not only been excellent teammates

Cons

    • I can't think of a 'worst' thing. But probably the lack of communal items in the kitchen like cereal, honey, tomato sauce/mayo, and herbal tea options that are accessible to everyone. This would be helpful for employees who are struggling ๏ฌnancially, and have no time to pack food at home, and will also motivate people to stay and come to the office more often for that social aspect. Also, we don't have a safe space to relax/calm down in times of need as we only have one lunch/break room. The rest are meeting rooms.

    • There are some people in my team that I have not yet met in person as working remotely is very common.

    • The feeling of being in a team with people working from a distance/remote work

    • Global reporting structure. Often direction/policies are not relevant to the regions we operate in. They also dictate pay structures and promotions.

    • The worst thing about working for DXC is the virtual ๏ฌrst working style. Although this style of work allows us to collaborate and interact with customers and colleagues all over the world, it also means there are some of my co-workers I have never met in person. I am a strong believer that in a virtual environment, spontaneous conversations and collaboration are reduced. Brainstorming sessions, team meetings, and creative problem-solving can be less effective when not conducted in person. In saying this, DXC is transitioning back into a hybrid model of work. I am excited to meet more of my colleagues and interact with them over a cup of co๏ฌ€ee!
