Fisher & Paykel Appliances Graduate Programs & Internships

  • R&D and Manufacturing

Our engineering graduates have had long and rewarding careers taking them across the globe and into senior roles. CEO, Dan Witten-Hannah, and Executive Vice President of Carbon Zero Transition and Research & Development, Kane Alward, both started as grads in the Product Development team and have worked all over the world in their careers.

We provide real-world problems to solve, giving graduates an opportunity to see their work become design features in products of the future. We trust and empower grads to make decisions while providing support and guidance to help reach the best outcomes for their customers.

As a summer intern you will work on a dedicated project developed with real consideration of both your skills and interests and business needs. Your work will have a direct impact to our ongoing innovation as a global leader.

As a graduate, after induction to F&P tools and processes, you'll immediately start working on real projects and contributing to improving and innovating in a specific functional area.

Joining Fisher & Paykel in design centres in Auckland or Dunedin gives you the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals passionate about using their skills and knowledge to design luxury premium products that respect the planet and are beautiful to use.

In 2023 and 2024, we were recognised as the Top Employer of Grads in the R&D manufacturing category.  Come and join us at the Top Employer of R&D Graduates in New Zealand! Applications open mid-May.

Recruitment Process

There are a few questions in the application process to answer to help learn a little more about you, building on the information in your CV, academic transcript and cover letter.

Once they have reviewed your application and checked your eligibility for the position you have applied for, you might get invited you to do a video interview, giving you a chance to sell yourself and elaborate on why you would love to join F&P.

Finally, you would get invited to a more in depth interview/problem solving/peer session in Auckland or Dunedin, where you can get to meet some of the team, explore the design centre facilities and learn more about the work you would be doing as a graduate or intern.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Joining the Fisher & Paykel cohorts as a graduate or summer intern you will start with building connections to your team, leader and buddy, to key stakeholders, and to the wider business. We provide opportunities to connect and network with each other and the rest of the business, grow and learn on the job and stretch as you learn more about yourself.

As a summer intern, you will work on a dedicated project that has been developed with real consideration of both your skills and interests and the business needs. The work you do will have a direct impact to our ongoing innovation.

As a graduate, after a comprehensive induction to F&P tools and processes, you'll immediately start working on real projects and contributing to improving and innovating in a specific functional area.

We pride ourselves on designing beautiful products that create moments of delight for their customers, and we know that to do that we need to have the most talented people around. Our remuneration, benefits, and working conditions recognise that.

Applications will open Mid-May.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people are super kind, open, relaxed, and happy to help. The work culture and environment are super healthy and welcoming.
  • Managers are very accessible. Easy to walk up to a leader/manager and talk with them about anything. Lots of great mentors, especially within your own team who are more than happy to assist you.
  • Big push to be Carbon Net Zero by 2050. Lots of intern projects looking at new and innovative ways to reach this goal as well as ongoing projects.
  • My company has strong support around the flexibility of work hours, and particularly for testing when these hours can increase, is the best approach to take.
  • Lots of opportunities to move up in the company. Some people who have started as graduates have ended up as leaders and executives.
  • Some decisions and actions within the business can be quite slow due to the large size of the company and the procedures in place that usually require communication between multiple levels and areas of the company before clear decisions are made.
  • The fact that it is in Auckland, I am not a fan of the traffic. But that is not a big deal.
  • Formal training programmes are relatively general and corporate. On-the-job training depends on the department and team.
  • Decision-making can be tedious or take longer than it needs which can be frustrating.
  • The inability to allow a hybrid work environment for graduates.
