Based on what I've gathered, the graduate program spans two years, which appears lengthy considering that by the end of the first year, the workload is more or less the same as that to a regular role. Additionally, it seems promotions are infrequent, and career progression tends to decelerate as one advances.

The company generally has no problem internally promoting, which is good. There are good prospects for graduates in this programme

The process to getting promoted and moving up within the company is quite opaque, really depends on movement within your team. While a formal review process occurs every quarter, and we are given information around completing this, how this transfers to promotion and pay reviews is less clear.

Only been here for 6 months so not that knowledgeable on how to move up in the company. I understand there is a matrix/rubric of criteria you need to fulfill to acquire/ascend positions.

Haven't gotten there yet.

Product development engineers are split up into development stages. These go along the lines of, Junior, Intermediate, Senior. To move up these "ranks", you have to show that you are capable to complete tasks at the specific level set out by the company. I assume these are given over time when you display your competency.

Honestly, I haven't given it much thought, seems like a lot but I feel like depending on your aspirations it could be achievable

After finishing the two-year grads program there is opportunity for us to choose if we wish to develop towards more people-focused roles or more technical focused roles.
Graduate, Dunedin - 31 Jul 2024
Lots of opportunities to move up in company. Some people who have started as graduates have ended up as leaders and executives.

Progression is clear, progression is directed towards competency attributes.

A well laid out career plan was given to me in my first week.
Graduate, Auckland - 04 May 2023
Career progression is relatively normal for a company.
Graduate, Auckland - 04 May 2023
Doesn't appear to be heaps of progression pathways. Don't have a great understanding yet of what it takes to move up, aside from time with the company and effort/ability.

Not sure how FPA maps career progression in skills and responsibilities to promotions and roles, beyond a general sense. Pay structure and progression is also not clear (I don't think any inductions covered it?). Definitely satisfied with the opportunities to get involved in things and learn new skills, however.

There seems to be a lot of jumping around in the company to different teams and roles, it's encouraged and builds up people's knowledge and handiness to different situations. I have not yet heard of anyone being disgruntled about promotions etc. Moving up requires a couple years of experience, unless you can prove yourself well and consistently.

Our performance is reviewed every 3 months, and after one year there is a possibility to progress to a higher career level (e.g., developing to intermediate to advanced, etc.) or receive a pay rise. To progress to a higher career level, we must meet certain competencies that are set out by the company (same for each role).

Being a medium sized organisation with heritage in a relatively stable market means there is little possibility for expansion. I don't see any great progression any time soon. I believe what it takes to move up the ranks is a combination of skills and luck.
Graduate, Auckland - 24 Mar 2023
The company is very clear about all development being self-lead. We have been shown many frameworks detailing where our careers can take us which is super helpful! Heaps of pathways
Graduate, Auckland - 24 Mar 2023
There is a great career progression structure here that they make quite clear. To move up the ranks in my field, it takes experience, an increasing degree of skill, and a broader understanding of the different parts of what we do. Moving into executive positions hasn't been highlighted yet, but this is fine because I only just started.
Graduate, Dunedin - 24 Mar 2023
It is a little vague at this stage beyond the grad programme, however the grad programme progression looks great and at the end of it I feel like I would be able to progress my career in a number of ways (within the company or externally)
