Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
There wasn't really any formal training; it was mostly a mix of on-the-spot training on how things work, and if any further problems rise then assistance would be provided.
Graduate, Dunedin - 09 Aug 2024
Formal training programmes are relatively general and corporate. On the job training depends on the department and team.

Training included 1 month induction process learning across different parts of the business, and options for qualifications relating to those in engineering fields, which I am not a part of and didn't get the option to complete.

Formal trainings/inductions were very helpful as a new starter and a good place to be introduced to PD processes. You only start to cement LFPD and other PD process ideas once you're in the deep end of things and you have an 'ah-hah!' moment where you realise why things are done the way they are. You have to be okay with being lost and confused a lot of the time because people don't have the time to babysit you. And you have to be comfortable feeling stupid and asking 'dumb questions' otherwise you'll never learn.

Great training procedure. We were taught the company values, different department leaders talked to us about what they work on. Company structure was explained and how you can progress up the corporate ladder. Technical training was also given. CAD training was provided.

The company goes through quite a long induction process, introducing you to different teams, their functions and what they do. There are also a lot of optional courses that you can sign up for which can expand your skills in different disciplines. You have the opportunity to improve your hands-on skills, especially in Product Development. Biggest things I've learnt include: dealing with ambiguity and collaboration.

Heaps of online training on offer, available any time and a large range of courses. Also in person/video call trainings which come up regularly. From my perspective the company invests a lot in bettering their employees and developing their skills.

Some parts of the induction schedule was not relevant to my field of expertise (CREO/Mechanical related), yet attendance was required.

Training has been good and I was provided a lot of support earlt. Starting to learn more on my own now.

Limited workshop opportunities for software and electrical (non-mechanical) engineers. Training is largely on the job, from working with more experienced engineers and having work reviewed.

Quite in-depth inductions, you get to learn about all aspects of the company. They provide good training for their systems and software such as CAD and their server management. They use Creo Parametric, and Windchill. They also pay for relevant engineers, such as myself and about 6 other grads, to do a diploma in plastics.

2-3 weeks of formal training at the very beginning. Training sessions are held by different Functional Leaders and provide an overview of the team and their responsibilities, as well as the company's policies and purpose. I've learned a lot about how the company works, their purpose, products, and employees.

Apart from induction which you go through at the beginning few weeks, there has been no formal job training. Most of the training needed to carry out everyday tasks are given informally.
Graduate, Auckland - 24 Mar 2023
The induction schedule was in depth and enjoyable. It was cool to see all the various regions of the office and how they work together and relate.

Creo cad training, Windchill(data management software).

A lot of my work has been figuring out how to use a certain system with help when needed, however, this is appropriate for the work at hand. There was a good amount of documentation for setting up.
