To be fair, there is admin work that is not necessarily highlighted, which may be boring. However, when issues come up and have to be resolved, this is where you can really use your skills and experience which to me is the fun part and what makes me want to be a project manager. You are not disregarded here, you take ownership for your work and will be doing all sorts of work, whether it be admin work, meetings, problem solving, communicating between the different parties of a project (project liaison)

The responsibility that you get at a relatively low level is really good. I have been trusted to run a few smaller projects myself and I have learned so much. Helping out the likes of a small school also feels pretty good.

Pros and cons of working at Frequency

Pros

  • Everyone is very friendly and welcoming from the start. When you start, you are treated the same as everyone else no matter your skills or experience. Being apart of the grad programme means that you have full support from the team to ensure that the required skills are gained.

  • The healthy working environment. I receive the support I need to develop and grow as a working professional in my field. I've been given immense opportunities that not many people in my level of profession receives at any other firm, to which I am very blessed and thankful for.

  • Being a part of a company the values and invests into their employees, especially their graduates as we have the opportunity to work directly with and learn from senior leaders

  • 1- The people I work with and have met in the company. Everyone is so nice and always willing to help. 2- being a graduate you still get to be hands on and help out with projects right from the beginning.

  • The best thing is definitely the people. The importance of being surrounded by likeminded people really can't be overemphasised. We all get on great and the culture is fantastic. I'm a strong believer that it isn't the job which makes you satisfied, it's the people you work with.

  • The people are very friendly and helping. Very easy to get along with. In terms of the work, you are not disregarded as a graduate. You get so many opportunities to learn and are actually apart of the main meetings, where you may be the only graduate in the meeting and everyone else has solid experience that you can learn from and observe.

Cons

    • I haven't had the chance to experience other service lines during my time as a graduate since I am based in Wellington where it is predominantly in Project Management Delivery. The service line 'rotation' is primarily available for the grads in Auckland as this is where the rest of the service lines i.e.. Project Controls etc. are available.

    • The worst thing would be the time commitment. There is no real 'down time' during the day. You need to get your billable 8 hours done everyday, so if you fluff around/get distracted you end up having to work longer hours.

    • The start to working in this company is slow. There is no set training programme which is a good and bad thing. You are actually learning much more without a training programme because this company puts you in proper situations and when you do finally get involved in projects and work, you are put in uncomfortable situations that you're not used to at first, but this is where you learn the most and would thrive the most. If you consider yourself to be a critical thinker then this is the place to be. You will be challenged throughout you're graduate programme but you will learn the most and thrive if you're able to use your wits and communication skills to lease with clients, contractors, designers and any other team members.
