At Fulton Hogan, we work hard to be the best and this begins with finding, developing and retaining the best fresh talent in New Zealand. We understand that where you land your Graduate opportunity is the first step in your career, and with over 80 years of experience, we are committed to ensuring you grow as our business grows.

We foster an inclusive culture based on family values. In whichever location you are placed (we have opportunities all around New Zealand!) you’ll get the opportunity to work alongside teams of experienced professionals to support a variety of projects, in an environment that is rewarding, challenging and fun.

What we’re looking for

Working with all levels of management, you’ll be exposed to the range of accounting functions through our structured graduate programme. You will experience all that Fulton Hogan has to offer to give you the opportunity to work in the various roles within our finance teams and across our various business activities. Our graduates become managers and leaders, playing a pivotal role in the ongoing success of Fulton Hogan.

We support all our accounting graduates as they complete their Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or CPA program, and develop individual professional training plans which are supported by a professional mentor. Fulton Hogan takes your career to places you never thought you’d go. Best of all, you get to choose the direction you want to go and we give you the tools to get there!

The role offers further professional development, conferences, and rotation opportunities both domestic and international across the Fulton Hogan Group.

Our current Graduates are involved in:

  • Month-end processes
  • Budgeting
  • Financial reviews
  • Preparation of financial reports
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Management accounts
  • Fixed assets
  • Job costing
  • Tax
  • Internal audit
  • Involved in projects

What we need from you

You will be practically minded with a hands-on approach to getting things done.

To further your accounting qualifications, we are CAANZ ATE and CPA accredited, and support graduates in their professional development.

We will provide you with technical knowledge, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to see the big-picture behind the numbers. Pros and cons of working at Fulton Hogan NZ

Pros

  • Amazing company culture ( respect each other, kindness, safety first)

  • The passion and attitudes that everyone has for what they do create a team environment in which you feel like your work is meaningful and productive. The work we do is able to be seen visibly in the community, adding to this.

  • Fulton Hogan I feel a large sense of pride being able to say I'm part of the organisation as Fulton Hogan does amazing things for the communities it is a part of.

  • Big company with lots going on so there are lots of opportunities to learn and grow and try different things. Good pride in the work we do.

  • Being able to move around the business and having a lot of opportunities to try different things as a graduate. Cons

    • Long working hours/weekend work

    • I have quite a long commute to work

    • Some stigma around working more hours each week than stated on contract. People ask questions once you leave before 5 p.m.

    • Not working in the city and in sometimes not-close locations.

    • Long hours
