We believe in opportunity, having a crack, being accountable and making it happen! Our scholarship students spend their summer breaks working in different operational groups across Fulton Hogan, all while signing off your professional hours. You will be working with and learning alongside the best in the business, gaining valuable skills and experiences to help kick-start your engineering career.

On completion of your engineering qualification, you will start a career with Fulton Hogan within our two year Graduate Development Programme. This is a professional programme designed to give you the opportunity, skills, knowledge, and support required to continue to progress your career with us.

Scholarship recipients receive:

  • Guaranteed paid summer work within regions
  • Undergraduate work throughout the year, where appropriate  
  • A permanent graduate position upon completion of studies

Financial support towards study fees, as outlined below

  • 1st year pro - 50% of fees
  • 2nd year pro - 75% of fees
  • 3rd year pro - 100% of fees

Criteria:

  • A New Zealand resident or citizen
  • Studying civil engineering at a recognised tertiary institute in New Zealand
  • Be at least starting their second year of study in 2025 (1st year pro)
  • Good student, with solid grades
  • Demonstrate Fulton Hogan values and behaviours
  • Have a passion for contracting
  • Be able to pass our standard pre-employment check

I generally enjoy the work that I am given. It is challenging and stimulating, I enjoy been given tasks that involve responsibility and organisation. I enjoy being able to have time in the field as well as taking on administrative duties.

Site engineer responsibilities. Assisting PM and PEs with the day to day operations, ensure work is completed in compliance with specs, PCP, WI. Ensure site crews and subbies have work programmed daily, weekly. Monitored productivity, do cost control, subbie claims etc.

  • Being able to move around the business and having a lot of opportunities to try different things as a graduate. Graduate summits to meet others and share experiences with people in a similar boat. Having the opportunities at these events to talk to people in higher positions and gain a wider perspective

    • I have quite a long commute to work

    • Some stigma around working more hours each week than stated on contract. People ask questions once you leave before 5 p.m.
