The Opportunity 

We need an enthusiastic & driven Engineering Graduate to join the Fulton Hogan team in Kaitaia, Whangarei, Tauranga  

In this role, you’ll see yourself responsible for supporting operational delivery of a project or department works, reporting to Site Engineers, Foreman, or Department Managers. You’ll be supporting tasks to learn the ropes such as quality checks, site set ups, subcontractor management, document control, safety, and suppliers.

On a day-to-day basis you’ll be responsible for undertaking support tasks to learn the ropes such as:

  • Quality checks
  • Site set-ups
  • Subcontractor management
  • Document control
  • Physical work with operational crews on site (i.e. machine operation)
  • Following general instructions set by your Manager or Supervisor
  • You’ll also contribute in any other duties that are reasonably requested of you

In addition to the above, Engineering Graduates are expected to:

  • Work collaboratively with other parts of business
  • Maximise mutual learning
  • Actively identify new areas for learning, regularly creating, and taking advantage of learning opportunities
  • Use newly gained knowledge and skills on the job and learn through their application

  • Assume responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks
  • Deliver objectives in line with the company’s direction
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work co-operatively within your team and manage your own performance alongside your team
  • Identify, develop, and lead improvement opportunities. Provide suggestions to management for improving delivery, customer service and internal processes
  • Ensure personal/professional development is in line with relevant professional bodies

What you’ll bring to the table

We’re looking for someone who is graduating this year in a relevant field, and of course is looking for a practical business environment to apply their academic learning and theory.

I generally enjoy the work that I am given. It is challenging and stimulating, I enjoy been given tasks that involve responsibility and organisation. I enjoy being able to have time in the field as well as taking on administrative duties.

Site engineer responsibilities. Assisting PM and PEs with the day to day operations, ensure work is completed in compliance with specs, PCP, WI. Ensure site crews and subbies have work programmed daily, weekly. Monitored productivity, do cost control, subbie claims etc.

Graduate summits to meet others and share experiences with people in a similar boat. Having the opportunities at these events to talk to people in higher positions and gain a wider perspective

    • Some stigma around working more hours each week than stated on contract. People ask questions once you leave before 5 p.m.
