LGBTQ+ at Gilbert + Tobin
Fundamental to G+T’s values is recognising the right of our LGBTI employees to live and work, free of prejudice and discrimination.
- OUT is G+T’s LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) and allies group, founded in 2012. OUT’s objective is to ensure the firm continues to celebrate diversity, including for all LGBTI staff, as a fundamental value of the firm.
- Our OUT network raises awareness and advocates on LGBTI issues within the firm and in the community, including:
- Having an active role in the development of Next Practice thinking, including inclusive policies, diversity audits, training and profile raising;
- Contributing to the firm’s pro bono and corporate social responsibility work;
- Making submissions on behalf of the firm to the Australian Workplace Equality Index;
- Participatings in Pride In Diversity events, including the Pride in Diversity Mardi Gras float;
- Offering networking and social events for OUT members, allies and clients; and
- Holding annual firm-wide fundraising in support of the Wear It Purple organisation.
- When it was announced on 15 November 2018 that the majority of Australians had voted in favour of same-sex marriage, G+T employees were delighted. “On the day of the postal vote announcement, OUT organised what we thought would be a modestly attended event to watch the result. Literally hundreds turned up in the Sydney and Melbourne offices and people came into the Perth office early. When the result was announced, a huge cheer went up, and in that moment, I realised what had been the thread of my loyalty and that of many others to G+T – its humanness.” Peter Waters, Consultant & former Partner.
