Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
IMC cares more about your impact rather than your position in the company. They also often rotate new joiners to give exposure to various parts of the business. This is a great opportunity to see the bigger picture and understand the different positions available to move into. We have our internal key performance index which assess the technical and behavioural performance of each individual as well.

Particularly motivated individuals see themselves rewarded with opportunities not only to move up the ranks, but to move into jobs that they think they would be well-suited for. The company is very eager for its people to gain a broad exposure to a lot of different areas so opportunities abound.

With the company aim to expand its business, there are good chances.

The company has a merit-based structure, where the quality of the idea is considered most important. Over time, employees are given more and more responsibility and they are able to apply their skills to bigger projects, which may lead to more formal responsibilities.

After 2 years, you automatically become a software developer as opposed to a 'graduate' software developer. What this means is not clear but I think it comes with a raise but no change in responsibilities. There are possibilities for management roles, but this is also unclear. It seems that the people who move up are those who contribute a lot to the software and are well liked and known across teams.

Very flat structure, so not many formal promotion opportunities.

Flat structure so no promotion per se. This can make judging progression a little bit difficult. There is your bonus to indicate how you are tracking though.
Graduate, Sydney - 16 Aug 2022
Hard to say, we have a flat structure and managerial progression does not mean "moving up the ranks".

There is a fairly flat structure at IMC which is awesome when you start and have a lot of responsibility but there aren't obvious ways to progress except increasing your reputation (and pay).

Depends on how much responsibility you are willing to take on. Usually anyone can become a manager if they are willing

It's probably one of the less appealing parts of a flat structure and the type of work you're doing, cause there's not much in terms of 'ranks', but it's very much a meritocracy and good work is recognised through your bonus. Trading also pretty niche, so moving to other companies is probably not the easiest either.

Pretty solid if you do well.

The company is somewhat flat, although progressing and improving yourself is always recognised.

Transition from graduate to non-graduate software developer / trader after 2 years. Then move up the ranks by becoming a manager.
